Waiting by a huge oak door once Jaymi had knocked on it, we stood back and admired the view. The grounds of the house were pretty spectacular. There was a water feature in the middle of the perfectly mowed luscious lawn and a perfectly raked pebble walkway led from the drive to the front door of the house where Jaymi and Olly’s daughter lived with her foster parents until they managed to finalise the paperwork for the adoption.
“This place is..”
Before I had chance to finish the sentence, the door opened and we were greeted by an elderly woman who was perfectly presented and groomed.
“Jaymi. Olly. It’s lovely to see you again. I’m afraid Julia hasn’t arrived yet but please do come in. I’ll put the kettle on,” the woman smiled.
“Good morning, Mrs. Kennings,” Olly greeted, shaking the woman’s hand - presumably Mrs. Kennings.
“I hope you don’t mind but we brought our friend, Sammy along with us to see Tiami as we hope Sammy will be a big part of Tiami’s life too - being her godmother,” Jaymi smiled.
I looked at Jaymi in amazement. Godmother? This was a lot of responsibility for me to take on. I didn’t know if I was prepared for that.
“Of course. Of course,” Mrs. Kennings replied. “Come on in. Tiami is playing in the conservatory with her dolls. She can’t wait to see you.”
“We’ll go right in,” Olly beamed.
“Tea? Coffee?” Mrs. Kennings asked.
“Three coffees. Milk, no sugar please,” Jaymi responded.
“Coming right up,” Mrs. Kennings smiled before disappearing down a corridor, leaving us in the hallway.
“Amazing, right?” Olly whispered to me.
I nodded as I continued to look around at the interior that was as impressive as the exterior.
Following Jaymi and Olly through the lounge area that was decorated in a very tasteful manner, we walked into a conservatory to see a little girl with blonde ringlets sat at the coffee table playing with a Barbie and a Ken doll.
“Jaymi! Olly!” she beamed, jumping up and hugging them both.
“Hello beautiful,” Jaymi grinned. “Have you been good for Mrs. Kennings?”
She nodded ecstatically. “Yes!”
“Well, here’s the present I promised you if you were good,” Jaymi smiled, handing her a Disney Princess colouring book and a set of brand new crayons.
“Thank-you so much,” she smiled before sitting back down at the table and moving her dolls into a box beside the table to replace them with her new present from her parents.
“Tiami, we’ve brought someone to meet you,” Olly said, sitting down on the chair beside where Tiami was sat.
“This is Sammy,” Jaymi smiled, introducing me to his daughter as he sat down beside Olly. “She’s gonna be your aunty and godmother.”
“Hello Sammy,” Tiami grinned as she stood up and hugged me.
“Hello,” I laughed, hugging her back.
“Ah, you’re here!” another woman smiled as she walked into the conservatory, armed with a briefcase and dressed in a smart suit that was evidently designer.
“Julia, this is Sammy,” Jaymi replied, introducing me straight away.
I waved, still with Tiami attached to me.
