Grabbing hold of the toilet, I felt as if I was going to vomit up my intestines as I chucked up. The joys of morning sickness. It was like the entire room was spinning as I tried to take deep breaths, which was turning into a challenge as the more air I inhaled, the more I wanted to throw up. Groaning to myself as I flushed the toilet, I could hear the sound of Katy giggling away to herself in her room. After tying my hair back and splashing my face with water, I looked at my drained reflection in the mirror. I certainly didn’t look like I’d just spent the last two weeks sunning myself in Los Angeles. In fact, I looked like I’d spent the last two weeks locked in an office doing stressful office work without seeing a ray of sunshine at all. I looked horrendous. The baby glow had definitely gone.

“Let’s go see where mummy is, shall we?”

I froze as I realised I wasn’t the only one in the house, apart from Katy. Chloe was here. And she still had no idea about the baby(s). Running back into the bedroom as I heard footsteps heading down the hallway towards my closed bedroom door, I grabbed my dressing gown and threw it on. I had only just managed to tie to band around my waist by the time Katy and Chloe made their entrance.

“Surprise!” Chloe smiled as she placed Katy down on the bed.

“What are you doing here?” I asked, trying to look as non-startled as possible.

Katy instantly began jumping up and down on mine and George’s unmade bed as Chloe grabbed hold of me and pulled me in for a hug. There was a problem though. As soon as Chloe hugged me, I felt a kick in my stomach. It wasn't a strong kick but I was still able to feel it, surprisingly as it was pretty soon into the pregnancy. I looked at Chloe’s face, hoping that she hadn’t felt the bump kick, but from the look of horror on her face, it was obvious that she had.

Untying my dressing gown, Chloe flung it open to reveal my baby bump that I had been trying to hide so bad since it had began showing just a month ago.

“What the hell is that?” Chloe questioned.

“Would you believe me if I told you I just liked cookies?” I paused.

Chloe looked up at me with an expression on her face that shouted ‘no’. “Sammy..”

“Not when Katy’s here.”

“Katy, why don’t you go and choose which outfit you want to wear today and then I’ll come help you get dressed once mummy and I have had a little talk?” Chloe asked.

As soon as Katy nodded, she ran out of the room and thundered down the hallway into her room. Chloe shut the bedroom door after her before turning back to look at me.

“You’ve got some serious talking to do, Sammy,” she sighed. “I swear we’re supposed to be best friends but how can we be best friends if you don’t tell me anything?”

“I didn’t think it was right to tell you yet,” I replied, trying to think of a valid excuse that Chloe would understand.

“Right to tell me yet? You didn’t think I would be able to keep it a secret?” Chloe paused in shock. “Sammy, you’re my best friend. Don’t you think I should know if you’re expecting a baby?”

I bit my lip. “Actually, it’s two.”

“Twins?” Chloe questioned. “You’re having twins?”

I nodded.

Chloe stayed silent for a few moments as her eyes fell from my eyes to my baby bump. “But that’s not why I’m here. You said you would call me yesterday to tell me why you’re back in England and George is still in Los Angeles. But you didn’t.”
