Kalani was drifting off to sleep as she was exhausted from the school lockdown and Mackenzie's murder. It was a huge day but secretly she was even a little upset as she didn't get to do her exam.Ever since meeting the girls, she'd become a different person. She'd grown more independent and learned a sense of humour. She wasn't uptight anymore and sometimes even put friends before school. But she still enjoyed school and was still smart.
She had arrived home to flustered parents who were blubbering like babies. Ever since the threat, the had given her much more attention and watched her every move. Kalani hated it, it was annoying- Ding! Kalani's phone interrupted her thoughts and she groaned as she picked up her phone and saw a text from Chloe.
C- MADDIE WAS MURDERED! IM AT UR HOUSE WE HAVE TO FIND HER!
Kalani's eyes grew in terror. No! She thought very very scared. Kalani raced out of her bed and was careful not to wake her parents. Wait a minute! I'm sneaking out! I can't do that! But I suppose I can't leave a note explaining can I? She panicked. She looked at the paper and pen out on the table as if it was taunting her, but she looked at the front door and decided that finding Maddie was more important.
She opened her front door and sure enough, Chloe was there, shivering in a sports girl over sized t-shirt. Kalani looked down at herself in her grey sweatpants and a white singlet. "Let's go!" Chloe hurried. "But wait! We need a plan first so we don't get lost. They always want us to find the bodies so we can see our word count and so..." Kalani couldn't believe it. So we look guilty at the crime scene! Those mother- Chloe interrupted her with a worried and confused glance.
She turned right and started walking to Maddie's house and confused Chloe followed behind. "So...what?" She asked as Kalani kept walking. Kalani was in the zone, you couldn't shake her the tiniest bit or she'll lose it. It was a habit she'd had for a while and Brandon knew- I didn't visit Brandon today!
Brandon was getting stronger but he just wasn't the same.
Kalani and Chloe walked past Kendall's house, which had a for sale sign on it. Kalani shook her head, that poor family, she thought sadly. They kept on walking until they reached Maddie's neighbourhood. "This ain't no place for two lil ladies!" A man said. Kalani and Chloe jumped. "That house you're bout to walk into, the two girls were killed. We feel so sorry for Mel, so I'm on securiti! And I'm tellin you two to go!" He yelled.
Chloe was shaking and was pale and Kalani felt brave enough to talk back. "Maddie was one of our close friends and someone murdered her. That same person is threatening us. They've taken two out of four of us and Maddie was sadly one of them. We're here to find clues to try and locate her body to turn it to police." Kalani explained as Chloe held onto Kalani's shirt.
The mans eyes grew and he shook his head. "Well, I know a shack that they might've taken her to?" He replied as he smiled a crooked smile showing a missing front tooth. Kalani nodded and Chloe continued to shiver. "Can you take us there please?" Kalani asked as he searched around. "Oi Brande! Can ya cover for me?" Another man came over and sat in the same spot as he was.
"Let's go!" The two girls followed the man blindly into the woods. "So, what is your name?" Chloe finally spoke up. "Josh," he answered as they silently continued besides the leaves crunching under their feet. Kalani checked the time on her phone and realised that it was three thirty in the morning. She showed Chloe the time and Chloe's eyes widened.
"You two are very quiet," he said as they saw an opening in the woods. The girls ran towards it, in hope that the shack was through there, but Josh grabbed them by their shirts. Chloe screamed and Kalani tried to kick him. Josh dragged them into a tiny shack, like Willies off the Simpsons, and closed the door.
Kalani struggled as she tried to open it, but it was locked. Chloe was frozen as Kalani ran back and tried to kick the door open. Kalani jogged backwards trying to do it again, but tripped over something. "Chloe!" Kalani called. "Can you help me?" But Chloe was frozen with her eyes wide open. A tear fell down her cheek as her bottom lip quivered. Kalani eventually got up to see what Chloe was staring at.
"Holy crap!"
***
Sirens were getting closer as Chloe's eyes were still stuck on Maddie's dead body. Kalani was pacing, thinking about what to tell the cops. She'd been there to see two bodies and she was really in some hot water. "Chloe, you need to stop looking at her! It will make you remember it more and that's unhealthy." Kalani said sitting down next to Chloe on the hard ground.
Just as Kalani was going to stand up, Chloe spoke. "Voices." Kalani was confused as she heard the cops approaching. "I've been having these, voices, in my mind. They're negative and say it how it is. I don't like it! But, it's like they're, I don't know how to describe it. It's like they're trapped in my brain, and the only way to escape is to kill me!" Chloe broke down in tears and Kalani put an arm around her.
"Kalani Hilliker and Chloe Lukasiak! Are you in there with Madison Zieglers body?" Kalani replied with a yes as the police stormed through. They took photos of the crime scene and turned over Maddie to try and find anything. Another body was under her. "Tate?" Kalani questioned. It was all too much for Chloe to handle and she fainted.
Kalani asked the officers for some water and the fetched her some. In a few minutes, the police were just starting to leave. "Do you girls want a lift home?" A police officer asked. Kalani nodded and helped Chloe up. "Let's go!" Kalani checked her phone again and it was five thirty am.
"Lucky we don't have school!" Kalani whispered to Chloe earning a chuckle. "So, why were you girls out at that shack?" He asked. Here it comes! "Well, Maddie told us she felt unsafe in her area and we were worried when we didn't hear from her for a few hours as Maddie's hand is like, glued to her phone. So we decided to do some sleuthing and ran into a man named Josh who had a missing front tooth.
"He said he knew a shack where they could've taken her so we followed him. But he locked us in the shack and as I was attempting to kick the door open, I tripped and feel on Maddie's body. Chloe was in shock the whole time and I decided to call the cops." Kalani explained. She looked over at Chloe and she had a faraway look in her eyes again.
Kalani rubbed her back in a comforting way. "Well, stop one! Chloe's house, you get some sleep," he commanded. Chloe nodded and went behind her house. He continued to drive the extra five minutes to Kalani's house. "Last stop, Kalani's house! Same goes to you, get some sleep. I hope this won't happen again," he said looking into Kalani's eyes, as if he was waiting for her to crack.
"Yes sir!" Kalani said rather loudly. Kalani waited until he was gone to climb up to her window. Brandon done this multiple times, and so has the person who's trying to kill me! She shivered and almost slipped, but pulled herself up and fell into her bed. He eyes fluttered close and she didn't even have time to put her sleeping mask on as a wave of tiredness flowed through her.
Until finally, she fell asleep, not seeing the word count on her bed side dresser.
{ holy crap! that was intense! }
