A week later, all of the girls were called into the police station for questioning, as they were the ones who found Kendall's body. Kalani still felt faint thinking about that night and Kendall's body."So, was there anything suspicious near Kendall's body?" The detective asked the girls from his notebook. He had brown hair, brown eyes and was wearing a blue dress shirt. He was tapping his pen against the paper and it was making Kalani very annoyed.
Kalani's body tensed as she thought of the threat and tapped her fingers on the chair in a rhythmic pattern. Maddie shook her head, "no," she said raising her eyebrows in an intimidating way. Maddie was wearing black shorts and a grey crop top and her hair was down with her classic red bandana pulling it out of her face. Kalani thought that that made her look brave and Kalani craved that power.
"Sir, as you know, Kendall's funeral is tomorrow and we need to help out at the church so if you could, you know, hurry this up a bit please?" Chloe said in a squeaky voice. Chloe was wearing sports gear as she had been called from the gym. He nodded and continued.
"What was the state of Kendall's body? Was she hard? Cold? Or warm?" Kalani felt faint just thinking about her body again. She reached for her water bottle.
Kalani walked over to Kendall's body, waiting for the paramedics. "Search for any clues now!" Maddie said as they carefully moved her body. Maddie checked the chair, Chloe tried not to puke and Kalani was staring at her dress that could rival Carrie's.
Underneath the dress, there was a familiar notebook. As she got closer, she realised it was the same notebook Kalani had given her. "Guys! My notebook! It's here!" Kalani exclaimed as the others walked over to her.
Kalani quickly grabbed the book as if someone was going to take it off her. There was a page opened and Kalani scanned the page. "It says "six people", I don't get it." Kalani said.
Maddie's eyes widened. "There's six people in the word squad! She was helping us! Thank you Kendall! Thank you-" her voice was drowned by the sirens of ambulances.
"Kalani!" Maddie said waving a hand over her face. "Sorry, just thinking," she said with a smile putting her water bottle on the floor next to her chair. "What was Kendall doing the last time you saw her?" The detective asked.
Kalani thought, then said, "she was dancing with Josh Hyland." Maddie and Chloe thought then nodded at each other. Kalani knew that she was now going to be the third wheel around them, which made it hard for them to investigate and figure this whole thing out.
"So you're saying the last person who saw Kendall K Vertes was Josh Hyland?" All the girls nodded as he wrote something down. Maddie whispered something to Chloe and Chloe nodded. Are they talking about me? Kalani thought anxiously. The detective re read his notebook, checking that he asked everything and that he got all the answers.
"Ok!" He said standing up and the girls imitated. "Thank you for helping us and we might have to call you back in later this week." Maddie and Chloe strode out the door together and Kalani sighed quietly and followed out.
All of the girls stood out the front of the Police Station. "So, Chloe and I are going back to the shed to find anything else and you can just... I don't know, study?" Maddie shrugged her shoulders. "See ya!" She said turning around.
"Hold on!" Kalani yelled. They turned around with worrying glances. Chloe asked nonchalantly, "what's up?" Kalani shook her head.
"Is that all you two think of me? That I'm just some nerd? You know what, have fun figuring this out by yourself!" Kalani yelled running to her car. Chloe ran over first, followed by Maddie.
"Wait! Where are you going?" Maddie yelled as Kalani jumped in her car. "I don't know! Away from you two who obviously don't care about me!" She yelled slamming her door shut and starting the car. She knew she was being over dramatic, but they deserved it. Kind of.
Chloe and Maddie were left at the front of the police station, confused as someone watched from afar. I did this, they thought. Me! Her best friend...

After driving home than slamming her door shut, she was met with the figure sitting in her writing desk. She didn't jump, nor flinch, as she simply lied on her bed and sighed. "Tough day?" They asked. She rolled her eyes. "Like you'd care, you started this mess!" Sitting up, she continued. "You know, this is why I never get involved in drama or make friends. They always back stab me and leave me out," she said.
The figure thought for a moment before walking over to Kalani. "I joined the Word squad as I was jealous of all of you. Plus, I'm getting rewards, so that makes it cooler!" Kalani rolled her eyes.
"There's one for each girl, and Kalani, I'm your watchdog." They said taking off their mask. "I, your best friend, Brandon, joined the Word squad to protect you. But now, realising how dangerous it is, am going to leave your house and you'll probably never see me ever again!" Kalani was shocked, then confused. Then she entered a state of sadness and a mass of tears started coming and she didn't realise until her hands were wet.
Brandon and Kalani had tears streaking down their faces. "Thank you," whispered Kalani. "But I just want to know one thing, who is it?" She said looking up at him. "I don't know! Only Josh knows, and for your information," he said standing up and walking over to her window. "I didn't kill anyone but I will kill myself."
He jumped out the window and Kalani screamed. Her parents rushed into her room holding her tight. Kira noticed the open window and ran over. She peered through the window onto their bright green lawn with their perfect flower beds and white picket fence and saw something in her driveway.
More like someone, lying unconscious all in black.
