Kalani slid under her desk when she heard the alarm. She was shaking in fear as this had never happened before. She heard rustling in the back row and instantly knew it was Maddie. She rolled her eyes as she was really quite sick of them. Nobody cared that her friend that she's know since she was five attempted suicide and was barely surviving.

"Kalani, dear, stay right here. Everything's going to be alright." Her mum said soothingly. Kalani shook her head in between crying. "N-no! He's going t-to-" she cried. The ambulance came and took him away which made her even more scared.

Ding! Kalani's dug through the bottom of her bag to try and find her phone. She stopped as soon as she saw an orange container. Kalani's brain replayed horrible memories.

Kalani came home crying. I hate Jaycee Wilkins! She thought. I hate her! Kalani sobbed into her pillow. Kalani had been publicly humiliated by Jaycee as she told everyone that Kalani took drugs. It was totally true as Jaycee was her drug dealer and Kalani gave her the money after school.

Kalani eyes the orange container on her dresser and climbed over bed and grabbed the pills. She swallowed one and immediately felt better.

Kalani shook her head. No distractions. Grabbing her phone, she opened the iMessage app to see a text and photo from Maddie. Kalani tried to send something encouraging, but it looked like she was mocking her.

Maddie sent another picture and Kalani couldn't take it anymore. She sent something so insulting she couldn't imagine even saying it. Before she knew it, Maddie got up and yelled her last five words at the teacher. Crap!

C- good job Kalani! Now Maddie's off probably trying to kill herself.
K- calm down I'm in her class, and she went outside. Meet me there.

She hoped Chloe would, but after the way she was treating her, she doubted it.

Mackenzie Ziegler was under her desk, quivering in fear. Breathe. She commanded herself. You're going to be okay. What about Maddie? She thought anxiously. Mackenzie looked up and heard a slam! And saw Maddie. "Maddie!" Mackenzie called in the spur of the moment.

Her teacher silenced her but Mackenzie saw the look on Maddie's face and knew that she was up to no good. Mackenzie was a good student and was always polite, despite her rude classmates who would leave without asking. But this time, she was one of them and ran out of the classroom without a glance back.

"I'm coming Maddie!" She whisper-yelled. She saw a flash of blonde hair and decided to follow her. She jogged around lockers and classrooms and made it outside. "Maddie?" She called, confused. Not a soul was seen but she could hear voices.

"But, oh so sadly, she took her own life at a school lockdown for she didn't want to remember this horrible day!" It didn't sound like Maddie but the voice was a bit croaky but high pitched. It sounded like an old friend from gymnastics. But who? She went to call out but turned the corner and saw Maddie struggling on the ground and someone holding a knife near her left shoulder. Isn't that where her heart-

"Goodbye Madison!" They said. Mackenzie knew she had to do something, so she called out. "Stop!" She yelled so loud she thought the whole school would've heard her. Everyone turned to look at her and Maddie's eyes grew. "Kenzie, leave! Right now! And go tell Kalani and Chloe-" Suddenly, they appeared.

"Tell us what?" They said. Chloe saw Mackenzie and quickly rushed to her side. "Mackenzie, listen to me." Mackenzie was confused. Why was the schools star jock, the schools most successful student a bunch of people dressed in black trying to hurt Maddie?

"Are they going to kill her?" Mackenzie asked with her bottom lip trembling. Chloe tried to think of something comforting, but had no such luck and Mackenzie knew it. "Maddie!" She yelled running over to her. Someone grabbed her before she could reach her and Mackenzie assumed it was Chloe.

"I just need to talk to her!" She screamed kicking them. The person was silent and that made Mackenzie nervous. "Stop! Let go of me!" She screamed.

(Switching back to Kalani's pov)

Kalani stood there, motionless. She knew she could help but what would she do? Maddie was almost killed by the Word squad and now her innocent little sister was about to be murdered by them to.

"Put Mackenzie down! If you have any dignity left," Kalani yelled. They dropped Mackenzie face down on the concrete. She screamed in pain and Chloe rushed to her side. "Listen, I'm giving you the opportunity to tell us what we did wrong so we can apologise and move on." Kalani offered.

The person (the leader) looked intrigued. Kalani continued.

"If you had the opportunity, would you capture it? Or just let it slip?" Maddie looked up in surprise. "Eminem," she whispered. The leader looked like they would take it, but then started laughing.

Everyone else joined in and Mackenzie was now sitting up. The leader went over to Mackenzie and grabbed her chin. "Some sacrifices just have to be made," they said letting go of Mackenzie's chin sharply. "What did we do was the question," Kalani said. If I could just use my debating skills... "You killed my stepsister. She taught me how to dress nice, my makeup, flirting and how to be me! You took that away from me! All of you, Paige and Kendall deserved to die!"

Mackenzie was confused. "Did you kill Paige?" She asked the leader. The leader thought for a moment, then whispered something to the group. After they nodded, they turned around. "Yes dear. But I prefer murdered, don't you?" Mackenzie shook her head.

"I think it gives some spice to it, some character, edge. I like it. Paige Hyland," they said imagining a billboard in lights. "Murdered. Kendall Vertes, murdered. Mackenzie Ziegler, murdered."

Mackenzie's eyes grew in fear as she realised what was happening. "No," Maddie said quietly as they raised a knife. "No!" She screamed running over. But she wasn't fast enough. They thrust the knife into Mackenzie's left shoulder, just how she thought her older sister was going to die, then they twisted it.

She screamed in pain and Kalani shook her head. She's in year seven, barely even started high school. Kalani didn't even realise a silent tear slip down her cheek as she saw Maddie sobbing, holding Mackenzie in her arms. Kalani let silent tears roll down her cheeks as she made her way over.

"She's dead."

{ remember? They did say to Maddie that they are serious... Poor Mackenzie! She wasn't really in the story that much which was why I put a bit of it in her pov. I'm really liking where this is going so far but I might be a bit slow on updates as I'm trying to write another story so that I can just post it when I please without trying to write it. Thanks xx}
