Darrel glanced at her again and Akira couldn't stop the shiver that crawled its way up her spine to the back of her neck.
Akira's father kept his eyes on Darrel, but turned to Akira so that she could hear him. "Akira, it's time for you to go inside. Now." He said, since Akira hesitated in going inside without him. She slowly nodded and then turned and walked to the pack house. Akira could feel Darrel's gaze on her retreating form the entire walk so was almost yelling with relief when the door's closed behind her, cutting his view off.
Once Akira's sure that the door is closed, and no one is around her she takes off towards her room where she will have a perfect view of the courtyard below. When she gets there she peeks through the window, hoping to remain unseen. After what she guesses is twenty minutes later, Darrel and his pack leaves.
She see's her father shout something towards the guards and see's that the front gates close. She had every intention of hunting her father down and finding out what had happened in her absence. Taking off down the stairs, she rushes to catch her father before he gets busy with another chore.
"Father!" She shouts as she see's him at the bottom of the stairs. Her father turned and looked at her, motioning for her to follow him. Akira rushed down the rest of the stairs and rushed to catch up to him. They'd both walked into his office, where Akira shut the door behind her before she took a seat in front of his desk.
Her father sighed tiredly, as he rubbed his forehead. "Ahh, my dear daughter." His voice was strained.
Akira felt worry leap up and she leaned forward and took his free hand. "What happened father?" Akira could tell from the look on his face as he looked at her that she wasn't going to like whatever he was about to say. She pursed her lips to keep from speaking.
"They say they're from the Red Pack. Which is supposedly to the North. They're traveling not only to see the sights of the world around them, but to also find new blood." Her father looked her straight in the eyes as he spoke. "More females to keep their lines going." Her father suddenly leaned forward and grabbed bother her hands in his, "now listen to me carefully Akira. He has made his intentions clear. He wants you, as his mate."
Outraged, Akira tried to jerk her hands away from her fathers. But he held tight. "No! You wouldn't give me to him, would you?" Her father immediately shook his head.
him. I know wolves like him Akira. He wont stop until he's got you. What Alpha's want, they take." Her father said to her adamantly, trying to make her understand the severity of the situation.
Akira slowly processed what it was that her father was saying to her. "You're not like that father. You wouldn't take things or people that weren't yours.."
Akira's father smiled at her tenderly, "I was very much like that when I was younger. I was arrogant, cocky, but growing older has taught me different. To think before acting. I fear this Alpha hasn't learned that or ignores it." His eyes filled with sadness.
"Akira, I'm not as strong as I once was. So with that said, you must listen very carefully to what I'm about to say. Do not interrupt, understand?" He asked sternly.
She sat there for a moment before nodding. He smiled slightly as she nodded. "I will not win if Darrel comes at me with a challenge and I have no doubt that he will challenge me." Akira opened her mouth to speak, but her father held his hand up instantly silencing her. "He didn't say it out right, but I know wolves like him and wolves like him as I said will not stop until they've gotten when they want. He will fight me one way or another. And, because I know that I will not win I must tell you what to do if something should happen to me." He paused for but a moment, before continuing. "I want you to go to the Night Pack. Run, don't stop until you are sure you're not being followed. And do not rest for long. Do you understand me Akira?" He watched her face, studying her.
Akira nodded stiffly, blinking back the sudden sting of tears. Her father continued, "once you get to the Night Pack ask for Alpha Blayne. He's a very good friend of mine. If he isn't available to you, then ask for Thomas. You remember Thomas, do you not?" He asked, and she nodded quickly. No matter how hard she fought she couldn't fight the tears anymore. Her father sighed heavily, leaning forward, he wiped the tears from his daughter's cheeks, "Akira I love you so much. Do not cry for me. I've lived a blessed life, and couldn't ask for anything more." He smiles sadly. "I've had you with me all these years, it's still shocking to know that soon you'll be twenty-one." He shook his head in disbelief. "I remember quiet clearly all those years ago, you running around as a small child yelling for me. "Papa, papa." almost as if it was yesterday. To me Akira and in my heart your still that little girl.
The one who looked up to me as if I were her personal hero. I don't want you to ever forget that I love you, and that I'm proud of you." When he finished, Akira didn't hesitate to throw her arms around him, hugging him tightly to her.
"I love you." She whispered as she sobbed her heart out. After who knows how long her tears dried up. She simply lay against her father's chest as he rubbed her back, trying to comfort her.
"Go to bed now Akira. Rest." Her father helped her stand up and then nudged her gently to get her moving. Leaving her father's office, her heart felt heavy and her eyes felt tired. But, even as tired as she felt she still had trouble falling asleep. Her mind raced with all the information she had processed today. And when her eyes and body just couldn't take it anymore, she just passed out.
A few weeks have passed, and no one has heard or seen the Red Pack since they'd made themselves known. Akira was hoping that it meant they'd given up and moved on but she also couldn't afford to drop her guard. Her father had made sure that more guards were posted on the wall to make sure someone was there at all times. Akira was happy about that.
Akira laid in bed, unable to sleep yet again. Since her father had told her the information all those weeks ago, she hasn't been able to sleep right. She feared that if she fell asleep, it would be the last night she'd ever see of her father so like every other night she got up and dressed, readying herself for a walk around the compound. Walking outside, she welcomed the small bite of cold air. As she began walking, she seen her uncle Nigel walking towards her.
She stopped just as he did, "it's late Akira, you should be in bed." His voice was stern, but the look in his eyes proved that he was just teasing her.
Akira pouted playfully, "I needed a short walk." She continued to pout at him. "I won't stay out long. I promise."
Nigel shook his head in amusement. "Very well Akira. But I'll hold you to your promise." Akira nodded at him, and he walked passed her and headed into the pack house. Akira continued on her walk around the compound. She reached the back, noticing that she didn't see any guards nor did she hear any on this side. She took a step forward, looking around but still she seen no one. Akira decided she needed to tell her father about the lack of guards on this side, but when she turned to head back to the pack house she stopped dead in her tracks. Darrel stood there smiling chillingly at her.
"Lovely Akira. You're out mighty late, aren't you?" Darrel's voice was like cold water being spilled over her. He left Akira's body racking with chills and goosebumps.
