He wasn't in the house. He wasn't on his falling island. He wasn't in the Mystic Ruins at all. I had looked everywhere, and I couldn't find a single trace of Knuckles. Hoping for the best, Amy suggested he was out with Rouge, who was now nowhere to be found again.
"I'm sure he's okay." She said, leaning against the wall and shuffling her feet on the carpet beneath her. I didn't answer, I just turned over to face the wall. She walked over and crouched beside my bed where I lay there lazily. She was looking at me with a dreamy look in her eye, resting the side of her head on the bed. The moonlight that entered through my thin, opaque curtains reflected off her emerald eyes, completely capturing me as their prisoner. The side of her precious face was burnt some, covered with a bandage. It enraged me to think of the scar that would be left behind because of that stupid Egghead.
"What is it?" I asked, referring to her staring at me.
"Those things you said today.." She started, lightly biting her soft pink lip. "Did you really mean them?"
I turned over again to face the other wall, trying to avoid answering. I felt her get up on the bed and lay beside me. She snuggled into my back, causing me to cringe. I turned back over and pulled her off just a little.
"Did you?" She asked, a hopeful glint in her eye as I looked back at her.
I glanced away. "Of course.."
She smiled happily. "Say it again!"
I barely glanced back. "..O-of course..?"
"No," She giggled. "Those three words that you never told me before, until today."
Somehow, it clicked. "W-why?"
"That's the only way I'll believe you," She pouted.
I groaned. "I.. L-" I started softly.
"I can't hear you," She interrupted.
I took a deep, shaky breath, then smiled. "I... I love you, Amy.."
She curled and squealed like a happy little schoolgirl. My eyes widened and I covered her mouth with my hand. "Shh," I whispered. "I don't want anyone to know you're in my room.."
She nodded and I took my hand off. She reached into her pocket and got out her phone. "Say it again."
"Wh-what? Why.."
"Oh Sonic," she cooed, poking my nose. "You're so cute.. I just wanna record it so I can hear it all the time."
How blunt. "No," I muttered and started to turn over, by she stopped me by grabbing my arm. She shoved her phone in my face with a recording app on the screen.
"Pleeease.." She whined.
I turned back to face her with a light sigh. "I love you."
"How much?"
"That's pushing it.."
She giggled a little and smiled softly, putting her phone down. "I love you too, you know."
My heart fluttered with warmth. "I know," I whispered, petting the side of her head gently. Her eyes slowly closed to my touch, and she was soon after asleep. I kissed her forehead. "I'm sorry, Ames." I whispered, nuzzling into her.

"MISTER SONIIIIIIIC!"
I awoke to Cream's frantic call. I leaped off the bed and yanked the door open to see Cream looking up at me in panic, holding both Cheese and Buddy in her arms.
"Mister Sonic!" She exclaimed. "Have you seen Amy? I can't find Amy anywhere! I've looked all over!"
I glanced back to see Amy on my bed, covered in a blanket and hugging my pillow. I quickly leaned in Cream's line of sight and shut the door halfway so that she couldn't see in. "Nope, sorry Cream."
