I had thought the little girl was going to be an orphan or something. But no, she had an actual house with an actual grandfather. It was just the two of them though, in a small wooden cabin. But he graciously took us in and invited us to stay for dinner. Not actually seeing a friendly face in a while, Amy ended up blabbing and telling the old man our whole story. And I mean the whole freaking story. From the time I first saved her from Eggman up until today's incident with Shadow. Thank goodness she didn't tell him every single detail, especially about me, or m pride would've gone down the toilet. Only Amy could see that side of me. She only told him the big events. Like the Clystans, the emeralds, the gems.. And the old man seemed interested. Maybe too interested. I didn't think Amy should've been giving a stranger all that information, but oh well.
I detached myself from the conversation and just stirred my cup of coffee with a spoon. Looking around, they were all drinking it. Amy, the old man.. Even little Lucy. I glanced down at it, thinking it weird that they were drinking something so dark-colored and thick-looking. It looked like watered down syrup, but it smelled really good. I had never drank it before, and only took it to be polite to the old man. Now that I was looking at it, it looked kind of like hot chocolate. Maybe it tasted like chocolate?
Thinking I'd give it a try, I shrugged to myself and raised the mug to my lips. Centimeters away, a thought hit me.
'Don't drink coffee, Sonic. It's bad for someone like you.'
I stopped and lowered the mug. Who had told me that? Tails? He was the naggy type. But.. the words felt warm, like they were from a girl. One that I was close to. But it couldn't have been Amy.. Rouge? Sally? No, I don't think they ever cared about my health like that. Or did they... Someone kind. Cream? Or maybe, just maybe, it could've been my mother.
I stared down at the hot liquid in the mug, contemplating. It was hot like hot chocolate. It was dark like hot chocolate. And I had had hot chocolate before. Never killed me. How could this be any different?
"You just don't know what you're talking about." I mumbled aloud to whoever had told me as I raised the cup to my lips and took a big swig. The first second? Great! Just hot. Then the awful bitterness hit me.
I immediately dropped the cup and spit it out, the mouthful spewing all over the place. I stood and sped over to the sink, where I desperately sprayed my tongue with the sprayer.
"Ew, Sonic! Ew, what happened?" Amy spat, grabbing paper towels and attempting to clean up my mess. "I am soo sorry, mister," She said to the old monkey, then turned to me and complained in the same breath: "What's the matter with you? They've so kindly opened their home to us, so don't be rude!"
"But, it's bitter.." I tried to say, refusing to put my tongue back in my mouth.
She groaned. "You shouldn't drink coffee, anyway! Now apologize!"
"Why shouldn't I dri—"
"APOLOGIZE. NOW."
I gulped. Geeze, Amy was scary..
I walked back to my chair with a sweatdrop. "S-Sorry.."
