It'll be a date, she said. Some alone time, she said. Just a nice little walk before Tails gets everything ready for us to depart towards the twice dead Robotropolis. I gave in finally, believing her. Until we got there, that is.
Amy's sudden high-pitched squeal totally stunned me as she dropped everything and ran as fast as she could across the hall toward some white-colored cat girl, arms wide open. After a few seconds of realizing that she hadn't screamed because there was any danger, I slowly and awkwardly walked toward them. The girl immediately turned to me, grinning like a kitten on catnip.
"Is this him?" She questioned.
"It's him." Amy replied.
"Oh my gosh, it's him? The guy?!"
"Yeah!"
"Ohh. Em. Gee. It's really him!"
"I know right!"
They both did some kind of synchronized girly squeal, holding each others hands and jumping up and down.
"He's so... Ugh!" Valentine exasperated.
"Isn't he?"
I had no idea what they were talking about. I couldn't even tell if I was being complimented or insulted. I felt awkward. "A-Amy, wh--"
"Oh, right!" Amy smiled happily. "Sonic, this is my friend Valentine. We work together at the daycare. Or at least used to.. And Val, this is Sonic!"
Valentine walked up to me, took a hand, and vigorously shook it. "Pleasure ta meet ya sir. I've heard so much about you."
I mustered a small smile while she shook for about five more seconds before turning back to Amy. "So! What're we doin' first?"
"Oh you know what, I was thinking of going to that new store."
"The one with that one scarf we saw in the magazine?"
"Yeah, that one."
"Oh! That's such a cute place, let's go~" Valentine started skipping. Amy started to follow, but I grabbed her hand.
"Amy, can I talk to you for a sec?" I said under my breath.
Amy just looked at me for a few seconds. Then she looked to Valentine ahead of us. "Val! Go on ahead, we''ll catch up in a minute." Turning to walk backwards to see us, she gave us a thumbs up before skipping into a little storefront off to the side. Amy turned back to me.
"Amy dear.." I said in a mock voice, though I wasn't sure just who or what I was mocking, and took her hands in mine. "What the heck are we doing at the mall?"
"We're going shopping." She replied simply.
"This isn't where you told me we were going."
"We're walking, just like I said."
"Alone time?"
She nodded.
I started to question her about how we were alone if Valentine was there, but I just sighed it out. "Ames, this isn't the time to be so carefree and just hang out and shop.. Did you forget that Knuckles is gone?"
"You need to relax a little, what with everything that's going on and all.. Clear your head, y'know? Believe me. It's all gonna be okay, promise." She said with a smile. "Besides, you're usually the one who's all carefree at the wrong times."
I held in a breath, but sighed it out again. Taking it as me submitting, she started dragging me towards the store, keeping a firm grip on my hand.
