The rude sun shone in my face, waking me up. Amy, sitting beside me, smiled happily. "G'mornin', sleepy head." She said, softly caressing my quills. I sat up with a big stretch and a yawn, only to be climbed by three little hedgehogs: one pink, one yellow and one light blue."Gah!" I threw them off of me out of reaction. They both started crying really loud, beating on the bed and the floor like they were throwing a mega tantrum. I turned to Amy. "Wh-what is this?"
"What's what? These are your children, silly!" She giggled, then lay a hand on her big, round stomach. "And to think, we have another little angel on the way!"
I sprang from the bed in terror. Suddenly, a giant red and blue woodpecker flew in from the window and started roaring like a dinosaur.
My eyes shot open. I stared at the white ceiling for a moment. It was barely light outside, and the early morning light left the room and us covered in a soft, warm glow. I looked to the side and noticed a covered tray that looked like it would be for food, which i had no idea when it got there. I started to sit up, then I realized Amy was still on me, so I lay back down. Her head was laid on my chest, and I could feel her breathing. I wrapped my arms around her, trying to remember when I had even fallen asleep. I settled comfortably into my place and closed my eyes again, only to jerk awake by a knock at the door.
"Hello?" A faint voice called from the other side of the door.
I slipped out from under Amy and dived across the room to the couch, trying to make it look as though I hadn't slept next to her all night. It wasn't like we had actually done anything to be ashamed of, but I didn't want to give that idea across nonetheless. "Come in." I voiced, sitting up straight and composed. The young woman from before barely opened the door and stepped in.
"Excuse me but the elder would like to speak with you two as soon as possible."
I stood with clenched fists and nodded. "We'll be down in a minute."
She nodded and backed out, closing the door behind her.
I rushed to the side of the bed and lightly shook Amy. She only whimpered my name in her sleep with a slightly pained expression, as though something were happening in her dream that concerned her, and turned over. She seemed so exhausted. Running my fingers back through my quills, I stepped out of the room, shutting the door quietly behind me.
The old man met me at the bottom of the stairs, slumped over his cane. "Ah, hedgehog! Good morning! Where is your fiancée?"
"My finance..? I uhh.. Well we've been traveling and she's exhausted so I decided to let her continue to sleep."
"Ah, I see. How about a nice chat over breakfast?"
I nodded and followed him into a room off to the side. In it was a large, broad dining table covered with various type if meat and vegetables, deserts, you name it. He sat at one end and gestured for me to sit beside him, offering me a plate. I graciously took it and started to fill it up, digging right in.
"Mister Hedgheog.." The old man started after a long silence. "Might I tell you a tale?"
