Poor Shadow. He had Valentine on his back and she was laughing nonstop like she was a little kid riding a pony. She was just so thrilled to be riding him, and he looked miserable - which I, unashamed, found pretty entertaining. I had Amy, as usual, who just sat there normally, thank God. The others rode with Eggman, who had turned the car into some kind of hovercraft. He had been quiet all day, which was starting to get a bit unnerving.

It was difficult to run in the desert with hot, dry sand blowing up in my face. I usually tried to stay away from the desert for a reason. I wanted to go in, find the stupid gem, and get out as quickly as possible. Why her father had to hide the gems in such dangerous places, I don't know. Or better yet, how he even got them there. All to keep them safe, I guess. But did he ever think that maybe one day, someone would need them? Namely his own daughter?

I ran up on the tallest hill I could find, Shadow following my lead, though he was having some trouble not sliding down. Squinting, I scanned the horizon. Nothing. "I'm sure this is where I was.." I muttered to myself. Peering around, there was no evidence of any town or anything at all. Just vast sand for as far as I could see.

"What's wrong sweetie?" Amy said, walking her fingers across my head.

"I could've sworn it was there," I pointed out to the empty horizon.

Amy blocked the sun from her eyes and looked over my shoulder. "There's nothing there."

"Yeah."

"You guys!" Amy yelled right in my ear, causing me to flinch, waving up to those in the hovercar. They landed and the air blasted sand all over us, knocking me and Amy back to roll down the hill and get buried with sand. Amy sat up on me, spitting out sand with a disgusted look.

"Sorry, Sonic!" Tails flew out and over to us, pulling us up. "What did you want Amy?"

"He says he doesn't know where it is," She said.

Tails looked at me. I just smiled sheepishly and shrugged. Then I noticed Shadow standing there like normal on the hill. "Shadow!" I yelled to get his attention. "How come you didn't get blown down?"

He said something but I couldn't quite hear him thanks to the wind. "What?" I tilted my head and hit the side of my head, thinking I got sand in my ears. It happened again. "Wha—"

"I SAID I DON'T KNOW." Shadow yelled, obviously infuriated to the point of no return.

"Where's the town, Sonic?" Tails asked rather loudly.

"I don't know and why are we yelling?" I yelled.

Tails face palmed himself. "I thought you couldn't hear me. But where's the town?"

I shrugged again.

"You.. seriously don't know?"

"Nope."

Shadow slid down the hill and walked over to us, the cat hanging on his neck. "What do you mean you don't know? Why would you lead us all the way out here in an almost sand storm for nothing?"
