【Marika's POV】Jeff and I spent the lonely days by ourselves, we rarely speak. We just stare at nothing most of the time, just thinking and thinking. We're currently in Liu's room. God, we miss him so much . . .
His cheerfulness that rubs off on the whole family was gone, now we're all here, crying on the inside. The house feels so lifeless, it's so quiet even though mom and dad tries their best to act cheerful, but we know they feel the same way as us.
The door suddenly opened, mom came in wearing a plain dress with a smile on her face.
"There you are . . ." She sighed. "It's today." Mom grinned.
". . . What?" Jeff responded without a hint of enthusiasm.
"It's Billy's party today, get dressed up." She urged us to stand up from the floor.
"Are you serious?" I questioned.
"She's right, don't expect us to go to the stupid party after- . . ." Jeff didn't finish his words considering mentioning it will only makes us more gloomy.
"We know what happened. I think that this party can help us brighten up the past days . . ." Mom's smile faltered a little as she remembered. "Just get dressed." She sighed and shook her head as she left the room.
Jeff and I slowly stood up and went downstairs, we didn't bother get ready for the party. What a waste of time . . .
I saw dad wearing a suit. What the hell? It's just a kid's birthday party so why get formally dressed?
"That's all you two are going to wear?" Mom looked at us weirdly.
"Well, it's just a DUMB party that we DON'T want to attend so why bother?" I hissed. I saw mom glare at me but quickly calmed down.
"Better this than wearing too much . . ." Jeff added, mom's face turned red in anger. Oops.
"This is how we go if we want to make a good impression." Dad answered for mom. Jeff and I rolled our eyes and went back upstairs.
I scavenged for proper clothing but all I could find is a black mini skirt that looks like what businesswomen wore. When did I even own a skirt? Mom probably bough it for me, she keeps making me wear uncomfortable which I hate so much.
I shrugged and took it out. I looked for shirts or anything to go with the skirt but it seems some of my good clothes were at the laundry. Ugh.
"I don't have any fancy clothes!" I heard Jeff's voice from outside, he must be really pissed right now.
I settled for the skirt, a tank top and my usual short-sleeved hoodie. I wore it, brushed my messy hair and stepped out, I waited for Jeff outside his room. He came out wearing his white hoodie and . . . dress pants?
"You look stupid . . ." I mumbled.
"You too . . ." He replied with a yawn, eyeing my attire. "Atleast we'll fit in with the stupid people on the party." He said.
Yes, we're going to attend a stupid party on this stupid day, spending all the stupid time with stupid people, wearing stupid clothes.
Great, just great.
We walked down and they quickly gave us weird looks. "You're wearing that?" Mom said to the two of us, Jeff and I just scowled. "Well, no time to change, let's just go." She said after looking at her wristwatch.
We crossed the street and walked all the way to the Johnsons' house. We reached the place and stood on the porch. Dad knocked and we were immediately greeted by an overly dressed Miss Barbara.
