Don't be nervous.
Don't be nervous.
Don't be nervous.
I held the handle of my suitcases tighter as I walked toward the huge college. Wealthy kids go here, and well I guess you could say that I am pretty wealthy. I stopped and stared at the different parts to the college grounds. Eight. Eight different parts to the college. People kept zooming past me as I stood here not knowing where to go, what to do, what to say.
"Need any help there?" A gentle but husky voice said behind me. I turned around and stared at the sight in front of me. He was... wow. He smiled and walked over to me nudging my shoulder.
"You look new here" he said staring at the nervousness plastered across my face.
"I am" I sighed relaxing my shoulders a bit. He smiled and looked at me, looked at all my features and studied my clothes. I looked down at my outfit. I was wearing a long blue dress with a beige sweater. He was wearing a black leather jacket with black jeans and sneakers topped of by a pair of black sunglasses. After checking me out he took off his sunglasses and shoved them in his pocket.
"Aman. Aman Mathur." He smiled and placed out his hand.
"Priya. Priya Malhotra." I said feeling comfortable enough to shake his hand. He shook mine and smiled again showing the deepest dimples I've ever seen.
"What dorm building?" He asked and I became confused. I think he could tell that I was at a loss of words and decided to explain it to me.
"See all the buildings? Three out of eight are dorm buildings, did you not have this at your old college?" He asked and I shook my head.
"No, but it's my last year of college. My parents have transferred me to a new college every year for some reason and I don't know why." I said feeling a bit disappointed. I've never had a stable friendship or any stable relationship on that note.
"Come on, I'll show to the registration tables. They can look you up and give you your dorm and dorm building" he smiled nudging my shoulder. We walked towards the biggest building out of the ones on campus and walked in. The school was huge on the inside and the outside.
"Where is all your stuff?" I asked. He laughed and looked at me with a smirk.
"I got here yesterday and was told to help other students, so why not help the damsel in distress herself?" He chuckled. I smiled at his remark and kept walking towards the tables set up. One had a small sign on it that saidLast names L-P
We walked over and the lady asked for my name. I told her my first and last name and she flipped through her stack of papers. She gave me my dorm building and a dorm key then sent me away. Aman walked with me and it wasn't till we reached outside when he asked my dorm number and building.
"Dorm forty two, building two" I said showing him my key. His smile grew and I looked at him confused.
"I'm in building two and my dorm is forty three" he said digging in his pocket for something. He pulled out his key and showed me, I smiled at how happy he was.
"We'll be dorm neighbors" I laughed out. He laughed along and we walked to our dorm building while talking about what we are studying. At all three different colleges I went to, I was studying art. All my life I've loved doing art sketches and just doodling on my tests. Aman is studying health sciences, he's also in his last year of college and has an internship at a small doctors office a mile from the school.
"This your stop" Aman said taking off his invisible hat and bowing to me. I laughed a little and smiled. He was fun and nice.
"Thanks Aman" I said smiling and shaking his hand again.
"Anytime madam, if you need me... you know where to find me" he smiled and walked a few steps over then into his dorm. I laughed once more before walking into my dorm, a girl was in there setting up her bed and mumbling things to herself.
"Hi!" I yelled and she spun around. She blushed from embarrassment and smiled at me.
"Hey, sorry! Just trying to set up the beds" she smiled walking over to me.
"I'm Aisha, Aisha Manzano" she shanking my hand.
"Priya, Priya Malhotra" I smiled back.
"I set up your bed and if you need anything let me know" she said pointing to my beautifully made bed.
"Thanks, that's sweet!" I said walking over to my bed and throwing my suitcases on it.
"No problem, meet anyone yet besides me?" She said looking at me with a glow in her eyes. I smiled and blushed thinking about Aman.
"One guy, I think we are friends but we never established it... he's our neighbor and is really sweet" I said unzipping my suitcase.
"Well he seems nice, but you have made two new friends so far!" She squealed.
"What do you mean?" I laughed.
"Me and Aman, I think we can all be close friends!" Aisha said and jumped onto her bed. I laughed and continued to un-pack my suitcase. My first day at the new college was perfect, friendly roommate, cute and friendly neighbor and who knows! Maybe this could be the best year of college that I've had ever. I was ready for my last year of college and ready to excel into the best artist there is... but I wasn't ready for the scary truth that waited ahead of me.
