"I lost five dollars because of you" Aman laughed as we walked to his car.
"Hey! It's not my fault that you decided to bet on wether or not I would go with Gene and Courtney." I scoffed while opening the car door.
"No offense Priya, but your a bit stubborn" Aman said while closing his car door.
"Am not!" I said offended.
"It's true sweetheart, sir said so and I witnessed it too." Aman said starting the car.
"Sir?" I asked confused by whom we was talking about. Aman immediately became tense and looked like he was just caught red handed.
"Um... sir... your dad... I call him sir" Aman said opening the window like he needed air.
"Oh... why do you call him that?" I asked getting even more confused than I was.
"I dunno... what should I call him?" Aman asked nervously.
"Mr. Malhotra?" I said trying to figure out why Aman seemed so tensed.
"I'll stick with sir" Aman said starting the car and blasting music. We were headed to my parents for a small birthday celebration for me. Luckily they invited us after I was fully over my hangover from the college birthday party. We drove in silence, and Aman seemed tense.  My gaze was on him the entire ride and I could see every muscle in his arms trying to break free from his shirt. I don't know what was wrong with him. I bit my lip as we reached my parents house and Aman seemed to be less tense. He put on a smile before getting out of the car and I opened my door fixing my dress a bit before walking to the front door with Aman. He rang the door and we waited for a second.
"Priya! Aman!" My dad said happily. We both smiled at him and took his blessings before going inside. My mom was in the kitchen cooking when we turned the corner.
"Hey mom!" I said excitedly. I ran over and gave her a hug before acting like a child, I jumped up on the counter and sat there watching my mom cook.
"Aman can we talk?" My dad said quietly but loud enough for me to hear.
"Sure sir" Aman said strongly and the two disappeared. I dropped my shoulders and smiled sadly at my mother who could tell something was wrong.
"Kya Hua Priya?" My mom said wiping her hands on her apron.
"Nothing" I sighed looking down at my feet hanging from the counter.
"Nahin, there is something wrong." My mom said walking and standing right in my view.
"It's Aman" I mumbled feeling frustrated.
"What about him?" My mom said sounding concerned.
"I can't tell if he likes me or not and he's keeping secrets from me!" I slightly shouted while letting out my anger.
"Honey, boys are like that. They give you signals that they like you but maybe they just aren't fully ready to admit it... kinda like what happened with your father and I. And if he's keeping secrets maybe it's for the best and again maybe he's not ready to share the secrets with you." My mom said while washing her hands next to me. I let what my mother just said process in my head and jumped off the counter. I gave my mom a hug and felt a little better. Maybe this was for the best, and one day Aman will open up to me and admit he loves me too.
"Is the food ready?" I heard my dad say from behind me and my mom. We both spun around and saw Aman and my dad standing there both looking a little frightened.
"Haan, set the table please." My mom asked politely and finished the last few touches on the food. My dad set the table while Aman and I stood around watching.
"What are we eating" Aman said leaning down and whispering.
"Rotisserie chicken" I replied smiling.
"My favorite" Aman smiled with some excitement sparking in his eyes.
"Mine too" I laughed and we started heading for our seats. Aman pulled the chair out for me and I sat down. He was being a gentle man and I really liked it. My mom placed the food on the table and my dad sat down once she was settled. After my dad whispered something to my mom, we all dug into our food while we made small conversations. We were eating peacefully when Aman started receiving a call.
"Sorry, have to take this" Aman said excusing himself for a second.

Who's he talking to?

Why do I care?

Because I love him.

But he's hiding secrets!

Why?!

Then as I'm about to take a sip from my drink I here Aman yell. Startling me slightly and I placed the glass down on the table. I turned around to see Aman walking to the table looking angry, and scared. He looked at me then to my father as he placed his hand on the head of his chair.
"There was an emergency at the clinic... I have to go." He said looking at my father. My father and my mothers eyes both widened slightly and they took a moment to respond.
"We will have Priya stay here the night, you can go." My dad said and I darted my eyes from both of them, then to my mother.
"Be safe" my mom said and sent Aman on his way. I followed behind him as he ran out of the house and Into his car. Why did he look so nervous? I watched his car pull out of the long driveway and sighed in sadness. I love him, I really do... but I can't handle not being able to tell him my true feelings. I can't handle his secrets. I can't handle the fact that he is hanging around with 'the group' so much. I hate that Aisha is also hiding something from me. I need to do something... I will do something.
