I still didn't think this marriage was fair. Melina and I have always been friends, but I never thought our relationship would become this. There is only one girl that I've ever had feelings for but she is 18... and a family friend... so I guess this is okay. I look over at Melina and try to smile but can't. We've been married for two months already and I just can't handle the concept of her being my wife. I'm 22 and married... crazy.
"Hey Aman..." Melina says while pulling on the wrapping of a package.
"Haan," I say walking over to her.
"Can you help me open this?" She asks innocently with a smile. I walk over to her and take the package, opening it easily for her.
"Thanks," she blushes smiling at me. I have a feeling that she may like me because she didn't fight on the topic of our marriage. She's been in the happiest moods since we've been married and it hasn't been long. We do cases together and we work really well on the field. When we were kids we had been friends, probably since we were two! Apparently according to my mother and father, we had kissed once in the sandbox at daycare. There is this girl that I've always had a feeling for, but like I said... she's 18. I work for her father and lost his one daughter to our new enemy Kaal, man I hate him. His men caused his other daughter, his oldest, to have a memory lose problem... she doesn't remember me so I have no chance anyway. Plus, I doubt Mr. Malhotra or as I call him, sir, would let me date his daughter. We don't know when Kaal will attack next, but I hope it isn't anytime soon... I'm finally in a new home and it's strange. I've been living here for a month... With Melina. We've been living here together for a month and almost everything is perfect except a couple minor things.
"Aman..." Melina says snapping me from my thoughts. I look over and see her making her way towards me.
"What's on your mind?" She asks hooking her arms around my neck and smiling at me. I place my hands lightly on her hips and awkwardly smile at her. I haven't liked her ever. I don't think I can, she's on my my best friends.
"Nothing," I lie smiling. She laughs lightly while raising her eyebrows at me.
"You've always been a horrible liar," she giggles while shaking her head.
"Just a bit worried about tonight," I lie again while putting on my best smile.
"What's the worst that's gonna happen? We are already married!" Melina says her eyes widening slightly.
"Haan but-" I start to say but Melina cuts me off by placing a quick kiss on my lips. She takes a step back and unhooks her arms from around my neck. She has a blush on her cheeks and she smiles at me. And me? I'm a complete state of shock! Why has she just kissed me like that!
"Everything will go fine," she says and turns around leaving the room. What... what even just happened?!

***************

"We are very happy with the house," my mom smiles as I touch her feet in respect.
"Haan," my father agrees and they walk in the house.
"We are so proud of you bro!" My brother says hitting my back hard.
"Rohit!" I warn and he laughs it off.
"Aman, calm yourself," Tina laughs giving me a small hug.
"Let him be! He's a married man with probably loads of stress!" My other sister Melissa smiles.
"Thanks Mel," I smile giving her a hug.
"Don't forget about your youngest brother!" Arush says jumping through the door. I laugh at his childish games and pull him into a tight hug.
"When will you ever grow up Aru?" I ask stepping back and ruffling his hair.
"In a couple more months!" He smiles excitedly.
"Kya?" I ask a bit confused.
"Well bhai..." Melissa says coming over next to Arush with Rohit and Tina following behind her.
"We are taking up the same job as you!" Rohit says smiling. I feel my smile fall and is replaced by worry.
"No! You guys can't go into my field of work... I can't let you guys get hurt!" I say more concerned about them then myself. If I get shot during an undercover case then I get shot. But if one of my sisters or brothers get shot... I won't be able to live with myself knowing that I couldn't have saved them.
"But Aman we will be fine! Sir has already started training us, and we are ready for this!" Tina says with pleading eyes.
"But what about school?" I ask with my concern growing.
"We will finish school at headquarters!" Arush says forcefully.
"I just... I can't see you guys get hurt!" I plead with them.
"Aman, everything will be fine... we'll be fine!" Melissa says with a sad caring face on.
"And how do you know for sure?!" I shout slightly. My sisters wince and my brothers just look hurt from my sudden outburst. I take a second and take a deep breath. I take a step towards them and open my arms entering them for a hug.
"Bring it in," I sigh and they slowly walk into my arms as I hug them. I love them and losing them would break my heart. My mother and father also work for sir, my whole family now... I can't lose them all!
"I just don't want to lose you guys," I sigh resting my head on Melissa's head.
"You won't Bhai, we promise," Rohit replies to me. We stand here hugging for a minute or two before the door bell rings again. I recoil from everyone and put a smile on telling them to go join mom and Dad in the dinning room. At the door are Melina's parents. I touch their feet in respect and let them in then lead them to the dinning room with the rest of the family. We get the dinner served and Melina sits in a seat next to me. I smile at her and to show her that I'm trying to adjust to our marriage I intwine our fingers together placing them on the table. My sisters smile at me while Melina blushes heavily.
"So how's living together?" Melina's father asks glaring daggers at me.
"It's been fine papa," Melina says taking a sip from her wine with her free hand.
"Just fine?!" He asks alarmed.
"Nahin I mean it's been really good, Aman treats be correctly, and I couldn't be happier," Melina replied while squeezing my hand a bit.
"Very good," my mother responds smiling. No, beaming at Melina and I. My parents and Melina's share a look to each other then land their gaze back on Melina and I.
"Kids..." my parents and Melina's say almost in sync. My brothers, sisters, Melina and I all shoot our heads up to look at our parents. There is a pause of silence and I decide to eat something while letting go of Melina's hand. As I take a taste of the soup my parents find their voice again.
"Are you planning on having kids? You know, starting a family of your own?" My mother and Melina's mother say together. I start coughing on my food and slam my hand on the table trying to catch my breath.
"Aman!" Melina says looking my way with panic written on her face. I cough a couple more times while hitting my chest.
"I'm..." I manage to get out.
"Fine," I say clearing my throat and taking a sip from my wine to clear my throat. Once my voice is back and I'm no longer choking, I put my wine glass down and stare at my parents.
"What?" Is all I get out from shock.
"Melina and you should start a family, it'd be good for the two of you and I know Melina is probably ready," Melina's mother smiles at us.
"Mom!" Melina says embarrassed by what her mother said because a light pink blush filled her cheeks and she looked down like she was ashamed.
"Well it's not like you don't like him," her mother says brushing it off her shoulder.
"Wait what?" I say to this new news I'm receiving. I look over at Melina and she is avoiding all eye contact with me.
"I may... may have a crush on you..." she stutters out in a whisper. I barely hear her and look at her parents. They look just as confused as I feel.
"Say that again?" I ask pushing the topic.
"I like you Aman, and I have for a while now..." Melina says a bit louder and my face just drops. No wonder she was so casual with our marriage! No wonder she kissed me earlier! No wonder she always blushes when I compliment her! How could I have missed the signs?
"How long?" I ask shifting in my seat awkwardly.
"10 years... I don't just like you Aman... I... I love you," Melina stutters out looking at me with tears filling her eyes. I scoot my chair back a bit and stare at her shocked. I never knew... I never knew my best friend... my wife... loved me.
