"I hope you understand!"
"Don't you dare think you can kill me!"
"You will never remember any of this,"
"Oh I'm sorry did that hurt?"
"Get him out of here."
Kaal' voice still booms in my ears as my heavy eyes start to open. My back stings as I try to push myself off the ground. I fail and I collapse face first on the ground again. I cough seeing dust fly before my eyes. No, not dust, dirt. I open my eyes again and let out a ragged breath trying to see where I am. I lift my head and try to push myself up again this time finding enough strength to. I slowly stand up and almost fall but grab the tree in front of me holding on for my life. My back stings with pain as I look around. Where am I? I take a step away from the tree and grit my teeth in pain. The shirt I'm wearing has rips on the arms and front, but the back feels fine and in tact. I slowly continue walking forward and realize I must be in the woods. I continue on for what seems like hours until I reach a road. It's quiet, and there are no cars. I look to my left then right and decide right. I walk slow and stop occasionally when the pain increases. Soon I hear cars and commotion, I must be getting back. And back, I am. I notice where I am and faintly smile as I walk a little bit faster. I grit my teeth through the pain as I try and get back to headquarters. From where I am and the speed I'm walking, it would be an hour till I got there. But what else can I do? I don't have my phone, any money, nothing. So I walk on, getting occasional stares from people I pass. I think about Priya and how we will be married soon and that helps me continue on. I continue going and finally I am close to headquarters. I start feeling weak as I walk down the long pathway that leads to headquarters entrance but I know that I'm getting closer and closer. When I see the gates, I almost fall feeling relief that I am home. I walk faster letting the pain rip through me, but I don't care. I'm home. I get to the buzzer and the guy buzzes me in. The gates open and I walk in slowly. I see training happening as I walk towards headquarters entrance. I stop when the doors open and Priya stands there with tears in her eyes and the group behind her.
Priya's P.O.V
He stands in front of me with his shirt ripped to shreds and red eyes. What happened to him? He never came back with the guys last night, and we didn't know where he was. I rush to him and throw my arms around his neck pulling him close to me. He tenses but still wraps his arms around me and nuzzles his head in the crook of my neck.
"Where were you Aman?" I whisper pulling away from him as he becomes bit less tense.
"I don't know, I don't remember," he whispers with pain evident in his voice.
"Who was with you?" I ask biting my lip. He looks down, then up, then to the group.
"I remember hearing gunshots, and Gene, Kabir, Rajveer and your father waiting for me," he says staring at the group. I place my hand on Aman's cheek and he closes his eyes sighing.
"I'm tired Priya, I think I'm going to lay down," he says removing my hand from his cheek. As he is walking past me, he kisses my forehead and walks slowly, very slowly inside. The group looks at him with concern and asks him to please talk to them. When he's gone the group looks back to me and I let out a sigh before walking up to them.
"Something happened," I say worriedly.
"I can tell by the way he was walking that he's been hurt," Aisha says looking at Gene.
"Well what could have happened? He doesn't remember anything," Gene says holding Courtney close to him.
"I don't know, but we have to find out," Aisha says looking at me.
"I'm going to go and check on him," I say starting to walk inside but Aisha grabs my elbow stopping me.
"Be careful, and call us if something is wrong," she says releasing my arm and letting me go.
Aman's P.O.V
I close the bathroom door behind me and walk to the sink. I lean down and run the water, splashing some on my face to wash the dirt off. As I finish, I turn of the water and grab the towel from the holder. As I stand back up straight, shooting pain spreads through my back making me shout in pain and I grit my teeth trying not to be too loud. I throw the towel down on the floor and unbutton my shirt. When its fully unbuttoned, I let it fall of my body and when the cold air hits my back. It sends tingles down my spine. I turn my back to the mirror to see how bad the damage is and when I do. I regret it. I hear a gasp from the door and turn looking at the door.
"Aman what happened?" Priya asks rushing over to me. I didn't even hear her come in.
"It had to be done baby," I say trying to hide the pain in my voice.
"Why? Why did it have to be done? Why did you have to be thrashed to shreds! Why do you keep putting yourself in danger Aman? If you don't want to marry me, tell me instead of trying to kill yourself!" She shouts with tears forming in her eyes.
"Really? Is that what you think this is about Priya!" I yell grabbing her by the arms tightly. She squirms and tries to get out of my grip but I refuse to let her go. I put all my pain aside and focus in on getting a point across to Priya.
"Goddamn it Priya I keep putting my life in danger to save yours!" I yell pushing her backwards. She stumbles slightly but regains her balance and glares at me.
"Why? Why do you need to protect me anymore I'm safe here!" She shouts as I take a few steps towards her. I step again and grab her again and she tries to beat me away by punching my chest. When I don't answer her she continues to punch me and starts to get angry.
"Why?!" She shouts.
"Answer me!" She shouts again hitting me harder.
"Aman!" She yells as I feel a tear fall down my cheek.
"Because your life and my life and everyone you know and love, their lives are in danger! You think your safe here? Your wrong. Because 8 years ago we thought we were safe here and guess what?" I yell shaking her as she listens to every word I am saying.
"My wife died," I say releasing her roughly.
"My child died," I say taking a step closer to her as she steps back.
"My brothers died," I take another step.
"My mother died," and another.
"My father died," and another.
"And they all died because of one man," and another.
"Who is now out to kill the group," I say feeling tears rolling down my cheek.
"To kill your mother," another step.
"To kill your father," another step.
"To kill me," I say and tears start build in her eyes.
"To kill you," I say as she hits the wall with a small thud.
"That mans name is-" I start to say but she cuts me off.
"Kaal," she whispers closing her eyes and letting a tear caress her cheek.
"I'm putting myself in danger so you don't have to, it's you or me, and I'd rather it be me," I say wiping the tear off her face with my thumb. She opens her eyes and stares at me.
"But I love you Aman... I can't lose you," she says looking at me with sad eyes.
"And I love you, I'm doing this... for you," I say letting our foreheads press against each other.
"Promise me you won't leave me permanently," she whispers with pain in her voice.
"I promise you," I say secretly crossing my fingers together. I will do anything to keep her safe and I will even give my life for hers. She lifts her forehead from mine and smiles faintly. I hear a gasp from the door and we turn to see Aisha and the group standing there staring at my back.
"Aman what happened?" She says with concern in her voice as she approaches us. I totally forgot about the new wounds on my back. I turn away from her so she doesn't see them but she turns me around roughly.
"Who did this to you?!" she shouts angrily.
"Kaal. It was Kaal," I sigh feeling tired and deflated by everything going on. I turn around and the color from Aisha's face has drained away.
"He's already started hasn't he?" she says almost in a whisper.
"Haan, but I will not let him get to you," I say then look at the group, "or any of you."
"Aman you've almost died way to many times to put your life first!" Aisha says with tears falling from her eyes. I step forward and wrap my arms around her pulling her into a hug. She wraps her arms around my neck and cries.
"Aisha," I whisper into her ear. She hums her response to me and I close my eyes.
"I promised Sir, to protect Priya at any cost," I whisper and she holds onto me tighter.
"My life is no longer mine," I whisper opening my eyes feeling tears building up. She whimpers and cries even more.
"There is a possibility," I whisper as I hold her tighter.
"That I may die," I whisper closing my eyes again. She loses it and sobs loudly pulling her arms from around my neck to my chest. She starts pounding on my chest rapidly.
"No no no!" She shouts through her sobs. I grab her hands and she stops, staring at me with tear filled eyes I release her hands.
"I can't promise that I will live, but I can promise that I will try, but Priya must never find out," I whisper and she just nods her head letting another stream of tears leave her eyes. I bring her back into my arms and hug her as she cries softly. When she starts to calm down, I let her go and look over to Priya who looks confused and... jealous.
"Kya hua?" I ask turning and walking over to her.
"Nothing," she says biting her lip.
"Priya," I say questioningly.
"Hmm," she hums looking over at the window. I move her face to look at me again and she does.
"I think we should get married tomorrow," I say smiling through the pain that still roams along my back. Her eyes widen as she processes what I just said.
"But why?" She asks hesitantly, but I can see excitement in her eyes.
"You have your dress, I have my suit, you didn't want an Indian wedding, and for that everything is already prepared. I can't wait another two weeks to call you my wife," I say and she starts to smile.
"Do you think my parents will be able to arrange that?" She asks with excitement rising in her voice.
"Haan, I know they can," I smile and she throws her arms around my neck pulling me into a hug.
"I can't wait!" She says excitedly.
"Me either," I say smiling as I hug her back. It's true I can't wait to call her my wife, but who knows how much time we will have until Kaal tries to attack us again. I want Priya to forget the problems and enjoy the married life with me. I'm not doing this for me, I'm doing this for her.
