"Wake up!"
"Wake up please!"
"Melina!"
"Wake up"
I start to blink my eyes open to the sound of Courtney's voice yelling for to wake up. I look around the room and at first panic rips through me but then I remember I'm at headquarters. I sit up slowly because at this point in the pregnancy it gets me nauscious if I sit up quickly. I put three pillows behind my back and rub my eyes as I hear commotion and panic happening outside the door. I look at Courtney who is pacing the room then finally looks at me with tears falling from her eyes.
"M... M... Melina we have to go to the hospital," She says walking up to me in a fast motion. I look at the time and see it's 3am. What's going on?
"Why?" I ask kicking my legs over the bed and onto the cold ground.
"There's been a problem with one of the agents... they were badly hurt and are in the hospital," Courtney says with panic rising in her voice.
"So? can't they go to the emergency room here at headquarters!" I say closing my eyes while stretching my arms. I pop open my eyes and now courtney is in front of me.
"It's Aman! Aman is in the hospital Melina!" Courtney says shaking me slightly. I feel my words get caught in my throat as I stare at Courtney not believing what I was hearing.
"Please Melina please get dressed," she says with more tears leaving her eyes. She stands up and leaves the room leaving me to get dressed. Without thinking I get dressed not believing that Aman is in the hospital. As soon as I'm dressed I feel tears start to run down my face. This isn't happening he's not in the hospital, he's not. Like I'm in a trance I walk out of the bedroom and down the long hallway to the elevator with tears blurring my vision. When the door pings open I walk in and press the first floor button. A few seconds later I'm met with Courtney, Gene, Aman's brothers and his sister.
"Challo Melina," Tina says guiding me to the parking garage where a car is waiting for us. This isn't happening. This can't be happening. The drive to the hospital felt like years but when I saw the hospital in my eyesight I wanted to race out of the car and right inside. But I couldn't. The driver, let us out of the car and we made our way into the hospital. Everything that was said and done didn't process in my head. I was still in shock. Until I heard the doctor start to talk, then I came back to my senses.
"He's just got done surgery, pretty bad wound, right across his side covering part of back and stomach," the doctor says and I realize we are now in front of a hospital room. Where have I been?
"The person with him, she is in surgery now," the doctor continues. I look up from the ground my eyes widening.
"What do you mean?" I ask my voice scratchy and low.
"The girl with him in the accident, she is now in surgery," the doctor says checking his clipboard.
"Who is she?" I ask hesitantly.
"Aisha Joshi," the doctor says hesitantly. Why was she with him? What happened?
"Thank you doctor, when can we see him?" Courtney asks with nervousness in her voice.
"You may see him now, but he does have a couple cuts on his face, arms and hands. Also a pretty bad black and blue eye, just be mindful of his condition if you go in there." The doctor says trying to smile at us but failing.
"Thank you," Gene says and sends the doctor away. We all look at each other hesitantly before I take the lead and place my hand on the cold handle of the door pushing down and slowly entering. No doubt, there he is. Hooked up to a machine that's beeping, my eyes filling with tears. His face arms and hands covered with cuts and scratches, his chest rising and falling in a steady slow pace signaling he is asleep. I walk closer to the bed and pull a chair from the wall to the bed sitting down. I place my one hand on my belly and my other on his hand. His finger twitches under my hand and I feel tears leaving my eyes at a fast pace. What happened... why... how...
"Aman..." Tina says in a state of shock. She's never seen her brother in this condition before I know she hasn't. Well actually her or her other brothers haven't seen Aman ever like this. And to be honest... neither have I. If I wasn't four months pregnant I'd be doing something, but I can't. I look over at Courtney and see her crying with Gene's arms wrapped around her. Aman has always been so careful, he's never gotten hurt this badly. A cut and a bruise mostly, but this? I don't know what the hell happened...
*************************
I heard mumbling from the other side of the door as I stopped walking. He's awake! I place my hand in the handle and push down, going into the room. There he is, awake and getting examined by the doctor. I walk in and walk closer to the bed. The doctor smiles at me and looks back down at Aman.
"Just take it easy for today," the doctor says and turns leaving Aman and me alone.
"Hey," Aman says with his voice scratchy.
"Hi," I slightly whisper.
"How's my wife and baby," he asks laughing a bit but flinching in pain.
"Aman what happened?" I ask a little aggressively. He sighs knowing he can't get out of this and sits up in the bed.
"It's Kaal, Kaal the guy who killed Sir's daughter Gracie and made Sir's other daughter have a memory lose... he's back. He's back and stronger then he was before, we don't know what or who is after. Sir assigned this case to Aisha and I, we went to the location he was currently hiding in, they saw us and we fled... or tried to. I was in the passenger seat shooting off the cars following us, Aisha was driving. She looked back for one second so I looked forward. A car came at us and I yelled to Aisha to look forward, she did and I got back in the seat. She wasn't too fast... she turned the car and we swerved off the road into the woods. Down a small hill, all the while I thought this was it. I felt sharp stabs of pain in my side coming around to my stomach. Glass. I remember before I blacked out Aisha was still breathing but there was blood gushing from her arm. She had been shot. Right before I blacked out I pressed the emergency call button on the passenger door," he explains with panic growing in his voice. Kaal. I hate that bastard. He killed my brother for no reason, killed sir's daughter, damaged sir's other daughter and now he's back for more blood shed? But who's... I feel a unsettling feeling run down my spine as I try to digest this new news. I pull a chair up to the bed and sit down blankly staring at Aman who looks concerned.
"How are my babies doing?" He asks smiling at me. I feel a blush rise to my cheeks because of what he's called me.
"We are doing okay," I smile seeing a sparkle in Aman's eyes.
"Just a couple more months baby," he says reaching out and touching my belly.
"Haan," I smile placing my hand on his. God, I really love him. He's so caring, loving, and friendly. He's perfect to me. I want to spend all my life's with him.
"I may be in the hospital for a while... will my babies be able to sleep without my warmth?" Aman asks a bit worried. I laugh a bit from this and shake my head.
"Haan we will, but I'll miss you," I say while standing up from the chair.
"I'll miss you too," he says retracting his hand from my belly.
"I'm going to my parents house, I'll visit later or tomorrow?" I ask a bit hesitantly.
"Haan sure," he says smiling. I smile back and turn to leave the room. He's gonna be fine, he's gonna get better. I smile knowing that in a couple months we will be parents. I place my hand on the handle and push down opening the door, I look back at Aman and smile. He smiles back and I turn exiting the room.
