The first thing Melissa saw when her eyes fluttered open was hair on her side. It was Greyson's. He had his head rested on the mattress and he didn't move when Melissa caressed his head so she guessed he was sleeping.

"Ah, you're awake, dear." Melissa heard a familiar voice.

She didn't notice that there were another three people in the room; her in-laws and her father.

"Mom Lisa?" She called. All three of them walked closer to the bed. Their voices stirred Greyson.

"How are you feeling, Mel?" Her father asked.

"Worse." She joked. Her father gave her a sad smile. She turned to her side when she felt a light squeeze on her hand.

   "Mel..." Greyson's voice was hoarse.

"Greyson, where is our baby?" Was the first thing Melissa asked to Greyson. She looked around but couldn't see any baby cot.

Greyson didn't answer. As Melissa examined his face, she could see his bloodshot eyes and red nose as if he had just stopped crying.

"Greyson? Do you hear me? Where's our baby? I heard it's a boy." She grinned and tugged on Greyson's arm cheerfully. "And what's with your puffy eyes? You weren't crying, were you?"

Greyson looked down at Melissa's hand on his arm. Then he gathered his strength up to look into Melissa's eyes.

"Mel, our baby... He's not here with us anymore. He's in a better place now." Greyson's voice cracked as he spoke the last sentence.

Melissa stared at him for a while, trying to process his words. Then she chuckled whilst shaking her head.

"What are you talking about? He's here with us, right? Dad? Greyson is joking, right? Mom Lisa?"

The three of them didn't say anything. Lisa had her hand on her mouth, not strong enough to witness the scene.

"Mel, Mel. Listen here." Greyson took Melissa's hand.

"No, I don't want to. You're lying." Melissa pulled her hand out of Greyson's grip.

Greyson was about to say something when the doctor and a nurse entered the room. He smiled at everyone in the room, not noticing the situation that was tensing.

"So, Mrs Chance, how are you feeling?" He shoved his hands into the pockets of his white coat. The nurse who came with him checked on Melissa's drip and wrote something on the check board.

"Okay, I guess."

"Good to hear that." The doctor nodded.

"Doctor, can I see my baby?" Melissa quickly asked. The doctor was taken aback by the question and threw a glance at Greyson whose head was hanging low with his furrowed eyebrows. Seeing that, the doctor assumed that Melissa still didn't know about it.

The doctor breathed in and breathed out a deep sigh. "I'm sorry, Mrs Chance. We have tried our best but your baby boy only survived three hours–"

"Not you, too. Why is everyone telling me the same stupid thing?" Melissa cut off and threw her hands up. "I don't care. I want to see him." Melissa tried to get up but Greyson held her back down.

"Mel, please."

"Ma'am, please lay down. You haven't recovered yet." The nurse spoke.

"I want to see my baby. He's in the babies room, right?" Melissa pushed Greyson's hands and sat up.

"Mel, listen! Our baby is not here. Please, don't be like this." Greyson pleaded.

"No! You're lying!" Melissa insisted to get up but the doctor and his nurse rushed to the bed and held her down.

"Mrs Chance, please calm down. You cannot move too much. Your stitches will–"

"No, no, no! Just let me go see my baby. Please..." Melissa looked at the doctor, hoping that he would let her go.

"He was a beautiful baby. But he's up there now, he's in a better place."

Hearing that made Melissa's eyebrows furrow in anger. "Shut up! No! He's still here. Let me see him!"

Greyson held her arms and tried to hug her but Melissa tossed him away. Seeing Melissa getting more aggressive as she tried to remove the drip from her hand, the doctor asked the nurse to get him a sedative syringe. The nurse nodded.

"I want to see him! You're all liars! Let me go!!" Melissa yelled while thrashing here and there.

"Mel, calm down. You're hurting yourself." Greyson spoke with his weak voice. He was holding in tears.

The nurse returned to the room and passed the doctor a syringe. The nurse took over the doctor's place holding Melissa's arm as the doctor tested the syringe causing a few drops of liquid sprinkled out from the needle. He injected the sedative into Melissa's arm, making her slow down in seconds. Then Greyson and the nurse let go of their grip on Melissa. The nurse adjusted the drip on Melissa's hand and stepped away from the bed giving space to Greyson and the family members.

"This will temporarily put her to sleep. When she wakes up soon please let me know, okay?"

"Thanks, doctor." The doctor patted on Greyson's shoulder before he nodded to everyone else and left the room with the nurse.

Greyson looked at Melissa with his sad eyes. He just let his tears that he had been holding stream down on his face. His mother approached him and squeezed his shoulder to give some strength.

"Poor my girl." Mr Anderson spoke. Scott put an arm around him and gave a pat on his back.

"My dear... I'm sorry." Lisa said while hugging her son from his side. "I know this is hard for you. But I believe my boy is strong."

"But I'm not..."

"You have to be strong, Greyson. I know you can do it. At time like this, Melissa needs you the most." His father in-law spoke.

The scene he witnessed just now reminded him of himself back in three years ago. He saw himself in Melissa and that pained his heart to see her like that.

Losing the baby was something that Greyson wasn't prepared for. He was excited to have his first baby that he bought everything from clothes to toys. He bought healthy food and supplements for Melissa to take and he sent her to maternity class once per two weeks. Greyson did everything he could to make sure that both his beloved wife and baby were healthy.

But God was more powerful and who was Greyson to deny the fact. He was very sad. He cried when the doctor showed him his baby that was no longer breathing. Greyson wanted the baby to response when he caressed his cheek and held his tiny hand but the baby was frozen still. Greyson never cried that hard. He thought he was strong but he wasn't.

And now, he had to be strong for his vulnerable wife. That was her second loss and Greyson wasn't sure if he could handle it. He, himself was not strong and weak at the moment. How could he possibly be there for Melissa and tell everything is gonna be okay? He didn't know.
