Greyson was exhausted. He didn't slept for three days straight and he wished there was something he could do about it. His insomnia was getting worse. He glanced at Melissa who was sleeping peacefully beside him. Every night he would get in the bed earlier than her and pretended to sleep when she checked on him. He was giving her a silent treatment.
And every night she would scoot closer to Greyson and Greyson had to resist the urge to turn around and cuddle with her. When Melissa was sound asleep, Greyson would get up and leaned on the headboard, studying her face.
She looked innocent while sleeping. Most people did, right? Sometimes when Greyson watched her sleep she would have a frown on her face. It looked like she was having a bad dream, or maybe she brought her problem to sleep.
Greyson liked to play with her long silky hair. It felt so soft against his large hand and it smelled good too.
Slowly, Greyson got up from the bed and walked out of the room. He entered the kitchen to make some coffee for himself and when he was done he brought it along to his small studio, or he called it the dungeon.
Greyson placed the mug on the table and began to look through sheets of paper that were sprawling on his keyboard. He piled them up and put aside. There were the lyrics he wrote and most of them were inspired by Melissa.
Even though he didn't get enough sleep (he didn't actually sleep), Greyson still performed at work. But he looked tired and started to have dark circles under his eyes. Not to mention, his migraine was killing him.
"Dad, can I leave early today?" Greyson asked, looking at his father with his tired eyes.
"Are you alright?" Scott looked up and examined Greyson from head to toe. "You look exhausted. Did you get enough sleep?"
"I'm okay. It's just that I can't sleep these few days. You know, insomnia."
Scott sighed. "Was something in your mind? Is everything okay at home?"
Those questions made Greyson thought for a while. Lot of things happened that their parents didn't knew about and he never thought of telling them. Let it just be his and Melissa's secret.
"Yea-I mean there's nothing and everything is just fine." He paused before continued, "Can I go now? I need my bed." He laughed weakly.
Scott nodded. "Sure, son. Take care of yourself. I thought that one week leave was enough for you." He shook his head and excused Greyson from the office.
Greyson was driving home and the only thing that was on his mind at the time was the picture of his bed. He didn't feel sleepy but his head was spinning and his body felt exhausted. When Greyson parked his car and stepped outside he started to feel woozy that each step he took was hard for him.
Greyson struggled to find the right key to unlock the door and he accidentally dropped it on the ground. He groaned quietly and bent down to pick it up. The moment he was up again he felt so lightheaded that his vision started to see black and white spots. Quickly he reached the bell button and pressed it multiple times.
"Wait!" He heard Melissa's voice from inside. Greyson was holding on to the door with his eyes closed and when it was opened he stumbled forward.
"Woah!" Melissa stepped backward to give Greyson some space. "Why were you leaning- are you okay?"
Greyson didn't answer instead he was closing his eyes tight, trying to remove the spots he was seeing.
"Greyson? What's wrong?" Melissa walked closer to Greyson after she closed the door. Greyson didn't bother to remove his coat, he was standing in his spot and holding on to the wall for support. When Melissa touched his back he opened his eyes but her face was blurry.
"Are you okay?"
"Yea.." He walked away from Melissa and stepped towards the bedroom. The next thing Melissa heard was a loud thud and when she turned around Greyson was already on the floor.
-
"Is he okay?"
The doctor looked up to Melissa and answered her question with a question, "Did he not had enough sleep?"
Melissa furrowed her eyebrows. "He always gets in the bed earlier than me. Why did you ask that?"
"Because it seems like he has not been sleeping for days. His body is very weak and his blood pressure was low. That's why he fainted just now." The doctor explained. "But don't worry. For now he's alright and the meds will put him to sleep for few hours. When he wakes up soon his body will refresh and feels better, I assure."
Melissa was surprised. If the doctor said that Greyson hadn't been sleeping these days so what was all that? Did Greyson was only pretending to sleep? He couldn't, right? Why would he?
"I think I may leave now. If anything just give me a call, yeah." The doctor smiled. Melissa nodded.
"Thank you, doctor."
Right after Greyson blacked out Melissa was panicked. She couldn't think straight and didn't knew what to do because it never happened before so she called her mother-in-law and told her about it. Lisa gave her the doctor's contact and Melissa wasted no time to right away call the doctor that had been serving the family for years now.
Melissa climbed the bed and laid down next to sleeping Greyson. She turned to lay on her stomach and studied his face with full interest.
"Why didn't you look like this when you're awake? I've been missing this calming look on your face." Melissa knew Greyson wasn't listening so she carried on with her monologue.
"I'm sorry for lying to you. I know how much you hate liars yet I was the one who lied to you. I'm sorry...I just didn't want you to leave me." Melissa wiped her tears away.
She searched for his hand and intertwined it with her hand.
"I've been putting you through hell. You don't deserve all the horrible things. As much as I suffered from the loss I know you did too. I was selfish to think that I was the only one who was hurting."
Melissa laid down on her back and stared at the ceiling. She smiled to herself.
"I know you don't hear this. I know how much you wanted me to say it and I hope you still do."
She squeezed his hand and whispered, "I love you."
Half an hour later, Greyson opened his eyes. He looked at his chest that was covered with blanket and turned to his side to see Melissa's sleeping face. When did I get in bed?
Greyson tried to recall his memory. The last thing he remembered was he was walking to the bedroom when suddenly his vision went black. Greyson sighed. He looked down to see his hand was tangled up with Melissa's.
Looking at her face, Greyson firmly tighten the grip on her hand.
"If only you know how much I wanted to hold you in my arms and tell you that everything is okay..." He said in a slow voice.
"Goodnight, love." Greyson whispered before he closed his eyes again and back to sleep.
