This chapter contains mild violence (not gone into brutal detail)
“Aubrey, I’m going to bed.” I informed. Waving my hand through the door. I saw her picking up cups and napkins off the floor. Everyone had left now, except a couple of boys who still lingered in the corner. I think one of them was Casper, I could just about make out his defined jaw line, my suspicions were confirmed when Beau walked over and wrapped her arms around his neck. The other boy stepped back, moving towards Aubrey, I could still only see the side of his face, but he looked familiar.
“Night love.” She shouted through the house. The boy’s arms then draped around her, she smiled at him, ushering him closer, he placed kisses all over her face, but he never fully turned to face me, so that I could recognise him. I lingered for a few more seconds, desperately trying to identify him. He had tight brown curls, much tighter than Harry’s…I knew him…I decided not to stay any longer, not wanting to put myself through watching the make out session going on downstairs. I trotted up, throwing my dress onto the floor as I peeled it down my body. Aubrey had laid out a baggy jumper for me to wear to bed, it looked warm and cosy, and so I placed it over my head eagerly. I revelled in the weekend feeling, it was Sunday tomorrow, no school, no alarm, just sleep.
I could hear the muffled slurs of the dopey couples downstairs, their fondling and squeals echoing up the stairs and through the floorboards. I tucked myself in, shutting off the light and snuggling into the duvet. As I closed my eyes, the image of the boys face kept popping into my mind, the slight bump in his nose, the curly locks that dispersed over his forehead.
Loud thuds and smacks could be heard from downstairs; I wondered what all the commotion was about. Again and again, loud bangs echoed through my door. I ripped the covers off my warming body and walked to my door, pressing my ear against it to see if I could hear in more clarity…
Nothing.
I pushed the door open, trying to be as quiet as I could. The bangs instantly got louder as the staircase was revealed, there was still a wall in between me and the source of the noise, but it was easily audible. Laughter and giggles could be heard through the one door separating me from the four lovers in the next room.
“Casper, stop!” Beau laughed, her giggles filling up the whole space around me. I didn’t want to hear anymore, it was getting a little too sexual for my liking. I stood up from my crouching position atop the stairs; I turned around, ruffled my hair and started walking back to my room.
“Caleb…Caleb stop!” Aubrey laughed. I inhaled deeply. The curls, the nose, the square jaw. It was him…my mouth fell open, all feeling in my limbs fading away. There was a tingling in the tips of my fingers that caused me to panic, as though I wasn’t already scared enough. My heartbeat accelerated, my whole mind set being taken over by the desire to curl up into a ball and die. My breathing picked up, my vision becoming hazy. Think. Think! I stammered forward, charging back into the spare bedroom Aubrey had lent me. I closed the door and pressed my back against it. Did he know, did he come for me? What was happening? Oh shit… I was panicking like never before, I could feel my pulse in my throat, my palms turned clammy as I tensed them into tight fists. What do I do?! I looked around the room, searching for anything, an escape perhaps. All there was was the window. No. I couldn’t.
My phone. I surveyed the room, running onto the bed where I had a vague recollection of throwing it just a few minutes ago. I pulled back the covers, searching underneath pillows and in the small join at the bottom. There it was! Yes!
I opened the screen, my fingers shaking, my breathing hitched as I attempted to calm myself, closing my eyes and breathing deeply. It came to no avail, my mind still fogged with the thought of the boy downstairs, about to have sex with my friend. I scrolled through my contacts, I knew there was only one person I could call, although I really didn’t want to…oh god… I didn’t want to. I clicked the icon, the fear taking over my body, forcing my finger onto the screen. I placed the phone to my ear, my fingers nervously tapping on the back of the metallic cover. The thuds could still be heard downstairs, but I chose to ignore them, being thankful instead that they were downstairs, not up here in my room.
