Chapter 1:
(Ellie's POV)
I stood where Harry was stood, crying gentle tears, unable to move like I was frozen in space and time. How could I have let this happen? Harry trusted me to protect our relationship, to protect him from my family and I couldn't do it.
"It's done," Dad said into his phone before hanging up. I couldn't face the stranger I called Dad. I could hear my mother take cautious steps behind me. I picked up the ash that the tornado left and began whispering chants.
"Et undo reditus" I whispered, holding onto the dust to try and conjure him back somehow.
"I'm going to find the other four, I'll see you both back at the house later," I heard him say behind me as his friend began to chat, their voices fading into nothing. I continued to focus on my magic, hoping something would come from it. I sat there looking down at where Harry was stood as single tears flowed. Mum came behind me and put her hand on my shoulder as a gesture of sympathy.
"I'm so sorry honey" she said as she knelt next to me. I shrugged her hand off and continued to chant.
"Your father would have killed him: This was to help you." She tried to explain before I cut her off by standing and walking a few steps away so she couldn't see my face.
"Help me" I muttered standing there trying to think straight. How dare she claim to be on the side of good when she has done but support the other side.
"What's going to happen to him?" I asked ignoring her gesture of kindness.
"He's in a portal surrounded by other vampires who can't be trusted in our world. There is no blood there so he will dehydrate and eventually turn into stone like the others until they can feed" She explained. Just the thought of Harry suffering brings pain to my heart, but to know it was my own family kills my faith.
"So he's going to die?" I asked wondering what happens after they turn into stone.
"No, he'll be stuck for the rest of his eternal life until he next feeds" She replied as I looked around. I saw people walk past the alleyway from the back of the shop, clueless of what had just happened. I looked down trying to think of a plan to get him out of there.
"So its a fate worse than death," I replied.
"It's better than death." She said. She did the worse possible thing than death. Death would be a release to that.
"I need to get out of here, I need to warn the boys" I stated, turning to the exit of the alleyway. I couldn't stand and listen to her incoherent babbling any longer. I didn't protect Harry but that doesn't mean I can't protect his friends.
"Ellie you can't," she said but I ignored her, walking away.
"I can do what I want. I wasn't able to protect Harry but I can protect them." I snapped. She grabbed my arm as I walked past her and turned to me.
"If you try to protect them, I won't be able to help you." She stated. I shrugged my arm away out of her grasp and carried on walking.
"Ellie stop." She shouted. Her magic boomed out of her, literally stopping me from walking.
"Don't" I replied turning around.
"You're hurting right now. One day you will understand we're only trying to protect you." She explained. I was getting sick and tired of listening to the same old narrative. Everything they claimed to do was always in the name of protecting me but I didn't see how. Nothing ever changed and I was always the one hurting and disappointed at the end.
"What are you protecting me from?" I asked sharply.
"We're not having this conversation now." She said, walking in my direction that led out of the alleyway.
"Why?" I said moving to get in her way.
"Because we're in a random alleyway and you're upset." She answered trying to get past me.
"I need answers" I said getting in her way.
"You don't know what you need." She stated.
"I needed him." I commented.
"That not what you needed." She laughed at immaturely.
"And you know what I do?" I asked back sharply again. I was sick of hearing this. The more time I wasted, the longer the boys were in danger.
"Careful how you talk to me. If not your friends, I'm still your mother." She replied Realising I was losing time, I began wondering how I would go about getting out of this portal. They would know not to let me out due to the heavy restrictions given by my parents, especially now. I felt stuck like a chicken in a cage. I had the power to stop them with Harry and I didn't. I could have chose a different way or at least tried and would have been happy. I turned on my heals and started walking.
"Where are you going?" She asked and ignored her.
"Ellie don't." She said as I carried on walking. She clicked her fingers as I was about to turn the corner and within a blink I was about to walk into a wall in the hallway of our home.
"Seriously" I whispered under my breath. A guard from a different room came in and looked surprised to see us both here.
"Excuse me Mrs Dunson. Mr Dunson has returned and is requesting your assistance in his office." The guard spoke, the news breaking my heart. I closed my eyes design disheartened. I need to get them all out of there. I needed to make a plan and being here wasn't getting to help them.
"Not now, tell him I'm with Ellie." She replied. He ran off towards the direction of the office. I crossed my arms and turned to my mum.
"Explain to me how you are protecting me?" I asked. She stood there still and silent. She wasn't going to explain without my dad there. I knew it wasn't her choosing but I could see she was trying to keep the peace. I closed my eyes tightly before running up the stairs towards my room.
