Chapter 5:

(Ellie's POV)

Later in the day, my mother decided for us to go on a walk around the village to represent ourselves to the new witches and warlocks. We walked with our arms linked as my mum waved to the people. I struggled to smile considering I was still struggling with recent events. Everything felt so sudden. All that has happened and that I lost felt like a flash in my memories. It felt wrong. My mother's touch on my arm took me away from my thoughts as she let me go.

A little girl ran up to me with a flower and tried to hand it to me. I knelt slightly and took the flower, using my magic to make it into a butterfly. The butterfly flew onto her nose making her laugh before she ran away back to her mother. A crowd of people were surrounding us, all speaking at us trying to get our attention. The guards kept close which I was grateful for. Walking around and pretending made it all feel like a horrible nightmare I couldn't escape. A woman walked up to us, with her clipboard in hand.

"Hilda, what can I do for you today?" My mother asked smiling.

"Hi," I muttered. She smiled and nodded.

"Hello. Has your friend come and seen you yet?"

"My friend?" I asked as I noticed she was directing the question to me.

"A young gentlemen, five-six foot something with brown hair and green eyes. I think his name was Harry?" She described. His name made my body twinge in pain and surprise. She read his name off her clipboard as if it were just any other name, but it was special. I stood there in silence, mostly in shock.

"He was sent back with another family. It was a mistake" My mum interrupted, her tone was one not to be argued with and Hilda recognized that. She would have known he hadn't gone back through the portal but she didn't question it.

"Oh okay" She gulped.

"Well that's a shame. I'll leave you be now. Enjoy your day." She continued before walking off in a hurry. I looked over at my mum feeling like a fraud but held in my emotions in so no one could see them.

"I'm just cleaning up the loose ends that have been left behind"  My mother explained. A guard came and whispered in her ear to which she nodded back and looked at me with a smile. She waved around at everyone, grabbing my hand as the crowd around us smiled and called for us before she took my hand and clicked her fingers and we were back at the house.

"So much for a walkout." I pressed wanting a reaction. I smirk a little trying to hold in my laughter when I saw her disappointment. My mum loved the attention she got from being a royal witch, it gave her a big sense of purpose, a purpose I never felt but she wished I had. I heard my dad in the other room, boasting about his success to my mum.

"We can now cast the spell on that portal and be done with this mess. The elders have granted us permission to rid us of our problem once and for all" My dad spoke. I was walking up the stairs again when I stopped, hearing about the boys.

"Which portal?" She asked

"Simon's" He explained

"Oh Ryan" My mum said sounding disappointed in his joy he was getting out of this. Finally, some genuine sadness about what they were doing.

"Helen, this is resolution. With Ellie back on our side, we protect her and our bloodline.

"She is far from on our side Ryan."

"She will be. With time. Removing Harry and the others will give her the push to take her rightful place in our coven."

"I understand what you are saying. But it doesn't change the fact that this is going to far."

"You wanted them all dead as much I did" He argued.

"Don't you dare put words into my mouth! I never said that and you know it!" She shouted in defence as if she was hurt by him insinuating that. My dad goes silent for half a minute

"That was always you, I never want anyone to die, even if they are vampires " She stated. Finally some redemption.

"They are vampires Helen. You have to understand that they are a threat to everything we stand for."

"I don't need to understand anything thank you. I am capable and intelligent enough to know what they are."

"Then why are you getting defensive?"

"Because you have no compassion for the pain you have caused Ellie. Our daughter is broken and lost. And you are there gloating in her pain."

"She will understand one day I am doing this to protect her."

"He protected her more than we could."

"What are you talking about? He was a cold killer."

"He would never hurt her. You put that danger in her path."

"Helen. Listen to what you are saying. It is madness."

"It's madness that I let you act like this for this long."

"I don't know where this has come from but it doesn't become you."

"They are good people. They didn't deserve what they got."

"Are you defending the bloodsuckers?"

They both become silent

"Yes..."
