Chapter 23:

(Liam's POV)

I couldn't sit here any longer and do nothing. Drinking wasn't helping me either. After a night of talking and drinking with Louis and Niall, we decided to see what the next day would bring, hoping Harry would be receptive to remembering more. We discussed at length how hard it was and what would be best. Zayn had been a part of the conversation, but his stubbornness to let Harry's memory loss stick grew more tension rather than solutions.

Harry was my brother, and if this were the other way round, he would do the same for me. I left my bedroom and walked past Harry's room to find his bedroom door slightly open.

"Harry?" I asked, knocking on his door, opening the door further to reveal a made bed and an empty room. The sound of the coffee machine and clattering pulled me to the direction of the kitchen. When I got into the kitchen, Niall was watching a golf tournament on the TV, making himself a cup of coffee.

"Good Morning." Niall said, in a far too chipper mood.

"Morning." I replied, wiping my hand across my face to sober myself up, shaking my head.

"Did you get any sleep?" Niall replied as Louis entered the room with Zayn.

"Not really." I replied. Zayn and Louis

"Morning." Niall said to Zayn and Louis. Zayn nodded in response looking towards the TV and Louis headed straight to the fridge for blood.

"Morning." Louis said. He began to pour the blood in a glass as Zayn and Niall shouted at the TV, commenting on the golf.

"That was an easy shot. A kid could do better than that." Niall commented.

"Ridiculous." Zayn added.

"Are you going to meet Ellie today?" Louis asked me making Zayn turn his head over his shoulder listening in.

"I'm going to try." I replied leaning my arms on the kitchen counter, connecting my hands like a prayer.

"Do you think she's going to listen?" Niall asked turning away from the TV to join the conversation.

"I don't know." I answered shaking my head.

"Does she know how vulnerable this leaves him?" Louis asked rhetorically.

"Does she care? You saw how fast she made up her mind." Zayn asked turning around into the conversation fully. Everyone turned their attention to him, faces surprised by what he had said. We all had thought it but he was the only one bitter enough to say it out loud.

"She's need to reverse this. That's the end of it. It's not fair on Harry and that's what matters." Louis stated.

"She doesn't want too." Niall added.

"He doesn't have a say in this." Louis said, his frustration growing getting agitated.

"Exactly. That's the problem." I stated.

"Do you think if it was the other way round he wouldn't try to get Ellie to remember?" Zayn asked, one hand on his hip and the other pointing into the air.

"But it's not the other way round." Niall added sheepishly.

"Whose side are you on?" Louis snapped.

"It wouldn't even be a conversation if it were the other way round." Zayn interjected ignoring Louis and Niall.

"This is madness. I don't understand how this is even a conversation." Louis stated.

"If we are all united in this, we can insist she does this."  Niall added.

"Liam. Call her. Let's get this sorted once and for all."  Louis stated taking charge. I got my phone out and dialled Ellie's number as the air in the room because thinly quiet. The tension from the argument left us all divided.

"Ellie?" I asked, unsure if I had called the right person. I looked at my phone to confirm, and the ID said Ellie.

"Hey." Her voice spoke firmly but softly. From what I could tell, she was busy from the sounds that were coming across the phone.

"Hey," I replied.

"Is everything okay?" She asked, the background noise on her end becoming fainter.

"Actually, no, but it's not something I can talk about over the phone. Can you come round? I think we need to talk about this." I explained, looking directly at Zayn. His expression fell into defeat.

"Yeah sure. I'll round within the hour. I've just got to finish what I was up to here, and then I'll be round," she explained, her voice sounding distracted. I wasn't sure if she was in trouble and as I tried to listen in to the background noise, I struggled to work out the difference between chatter and movement.

"Okay, cool, see you soon," I responded, nodding at Niall, who smiled in relief.

"Okay, bye." She said as we hung up on each other. I put my phone back in my pocket and looked up to see them all watching with mixed expressions.

"She'll be round in a hour." I said before leaving the room for a breather. I trusted Ellie to do the right thing but I could see she was battling something, stopping her from doing what was right. I didn't know if it was because of Harry or something else but I knew I needed to try. Not just for Harry, but as a friend to her too.

I remembered the moment they had first met and the reason for being there. I remember my eyes falling onto hers across from the room and watching her laugh with a friend. Her blood smelt of honey and her aura was golden, brightening the room like the sun. We were there that night for the hunt and there was nothing I wanted more than to take a sweet bite. It should have been me that night. If I had ignored Simon's order or taken the lead then non of this would have have happened. She was the one who got away. She became more than Harry's girlfriend, she became a friend. And if that's all I ever will be to her, at least I had that. Sometimes something so sweet can also become bitter overtime. I hoped that we could get a resolution and get back to normal.
