(Ellie's POV)

As I walked into my room, it felt as if I had walked into a past life. Everything was in the same place as I left it. I walked towards the bedside table and picked up a picture frame that had a picture of me and Harry in it. He was dress in his classic black tee and his black jeans, his hair wild and free. I was dressed in my black long sleeved mini dress. I was laughing and looking at the camera where as he was looking at me giving me the look of love. I remember the moment it was taken as if it were yesterday. Yet it also felt apart of the past life I'd walked into.

I put the picture back in it's place and sat on my bed to take my heels off. I looked down at my clothes and I knew if I was going to get Harry, I would need to change. I looked through my clothes and grabbed my black and white long sleeved short bohemian dress and my black lace boots. As I was looking at myself through the mirror, I saw a figure come into the doorway I didn't recognise. Without hesitation, I grabbed one of my knifes from the side, using my magic to throw it across the room, stopping the blade just in front of their neck. I turned to see it was Laura and her face was in a shock of horror.

"Laura. Why are you here?" I asked, dropping the knife to the ground. I was so glad to see someone normal in the midst of the madness.

"Nice to see you too." She said walking towards me. 

"You know that's not what I meant." I said hugging her.

"I know. It looks like you've got a lot of your plate at the moment." She replied as I led her to the bed to sit. 

"Nothing new there." I said back sitting.

"Nothing new there." She repeated laughing with me. 

"My dad is outside. You have no idea what your leaving the portal has done." She continued.

"What do you mean?" I asked out of curiosity.

"When the elders saw you and your mother leave, they held an emergency meeting with your dad." She explained.

"And?" I asked not knowing where this was going.

"And? Ellie they found out he was using dark magic. They cast him out." She replied. A lot can happen in a couple of hours. 

"So what does that mean for my mother?" I asked protectively.

"She has not been cast out luckily but she has to swear an oath to lead the witches in your fathers replacement." She explained further. I took a breath relieved she was going to be okay and my dad's actions would not fall on her. 

"I can't imagine she'll mind. She practically does it now." I answered fiddling with the end of my dress.

"That's not the only oath that needs to be made." She said making me look up.

"What's the other?" I asked.

"Don't shoot the messenger." She spoke cautiously.

"Laura." I muttered. This was not going to be good.

"You would have to swear an oath to lead the witches too. The point is for your mother to lead as a guide to you." She explained. Why was I always brought into this?

"Absolutely not." I stated standing up and turning away from her in annoyance.

"Ellie. Our magic depends on it." She stated. I knew that was a fabrication. Magic didn't depend on the Royal line. Magic from a coven depended on the natural sources. The royal line only ensure it's practiced properly.

"No it doesn't" I replied.

"Come on." She said trying to reason with me. She stood behind me and put her hand on my shoulder to get me to turn around. But I couldn't easily just agree with her. I had just escaped one control, I wasn't going to be easily guided to be under another.

"No. Because then I will then be told I can't be with Harry because of another witch reason." I answered. Harry. Everything that's happened. It would be for nothing.

"Well -" She said before I cut her off. I couldn't hear her try to justify that.

"-No. Why does this always fall on me? My family line? The witches magic? My father's actions? I've had enough." I asked before I walked out of my room.

"Where are you going?" She asked after me, following behind. I began down the stairs and I could see my mother and Laura's dad at the front door talking.

"Did you hear about this?" I asked interrupting them.

"Just." She answered crossing her arms as a gush of wind flew through the door.

"I'm not doing it." I said.

"Please Ellie be reasonable." She said turning to me.

"It's too much. I'm being asked of too much." I stated. 

"There is so much at stake." She said. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. She may have got us out of the portal but not from the world. I crossed my arms and took a breath out.

"I will help you get Harry back if you do this." She said.

"Get him back just to lose him again?" I retorted.

"Ellie its' for the greater good." Laura trying to but in.

"Screw the greater good." I said.

"Mum?" I asked just as she fell to her knees suddenly. 

"Ma'am?" Laura's dad asked rushing to her side to see if she was okay.

"What's happening?" I asked. I looked over he body and she had gone as pale as stone. She looked drained but alive.

"I'm not sure. But one of my bigger spells has unravelled." She explained. A look of confusion written on her face.

"Which one?" I asked.

"I'm honestly not sure." She said as me and Laura's dad helped her up to her feet.

"Was it my dad?" I asked as she was standing.

"No he doesn't have that much power now I've taken his grimoire. Oh Ellie this isn't good." She explained.

"What can I do to help?" I asked as Laura's dad guided us to the living room, helping my mum to sit on the sofa.  

"Help us." She laughed as she said it. 

"Really? This has nothing to do with that."

"This has everything to do with magic." She answered adjusting herself. If this was going to continue, a wave of despair would follow and I knew I couldn't sit and watch as people are put into harms way.

"On one condition." I said.

"Ellie" Laura spoke up trying to argue with me.

"Stay out of it Laura." I snapped.

"On what?" My mother asked looking at me. 

"Harry and the vampires are left alone." I replied.

"Helen? You can't agree -" Laura's dad spoke in disgust. 

"Deal." She said shaking my hand, a light tying the deal in place.
