Chapter 6:
(Harry's POV)
"I've got an idea," Liam spoke up in the silence. We all were defeated. We sat away from each other, some of us leaning on giant rocks and boulders, others standing away looking around.
I looked at the mark on my wrist, the scar that created the link between me and Ellie."We're all ears," Louis answered.
"Well If I'm not the only one who noticed, this place is like a desert. It looks like there's no life here. Nothing living anyway." He explained.
"And?" I asked.
"We walked past a lake on the way to you Harry. It didn't really fit with the rest of the landscape." He replied.
"Why would they design this place with a lake?" Louis asked.
"I wouldn't have called it a lake. It looked more like a trap to me." Zayn commented turning around to face us, uncrossing his arms.
"Why is that?" I asked.
"It was full of blood." Liam answered.
"-Vampires blood." Zayn added.
"This doesn't make any sense." Louis commented brushing his hand through his hair.
"Why would they put a lake of vampire blood here?" I asked.
"Probably some cruel twisted joke. They know vampire's blood is poison to us. I wonder how many innocents have been trapped by it." Liam replied.
"Maybe it's a kind release. Giving us the option to end it all instead of being tortured." Zayn added again.
"The witches aren't so kind." Louis replied.
"Some of them are." I replied shooting a warning look to Louis.
"It's strange that it's there though. It's the only sign of life here." Liam asked further taking some steps in a circle as he carried on with his train of thought.
"Unless that's the exit?" Niall suggested.
"What?" Zayn commented.
"Think about it. There's always a link to the real world in all portals. There was one with Ellie's so there's got to be one here." He explained further.
"Okay but if we test that theory, we risk our lives." Louis said joining Zayn's side.
"Why is it never a simple door?" Zayn muttered.
"But it's better to risk than not at least try." I said.
"I'll take my chances out here thanks" Zayn replied being stubborn. I rolled my arms and turned away from him.
"Zayn." Liam commented.
"I'm not playing these games with the witches any longer. They want us in here so that's where I'm staying." He explained
"We've got to try." Niall commented trying to reason with him.
"Don't you want to get back to Perrie?" Liam continued.
"Of course I do." He replied.
"The only way to do that is to go back." Liam countered.
"And risk our lives." Louis added.
"We're always at risk." Niall said.
"Exactly my point." Zayn stated.
"Oh stop with all the pretences. Just say what you want to say." I burst out abruptly sick of hearing the pessimism. I knew this wasn't about the witches or escaping the portal. It was his annoyance with me and this situation I put him in. I turned around and saw Zayn's annoyed expression look back at me.
"Harry don't start." Louis added.
"No let's get this out there. He's mad at me because I put us in this situation." I continued
"That's not true." Niall said trying to mediate.
"It is." Zayn stated
"Finally. Some honesty." I said raising my hands happy he finally said it.
"It's your disregard of responsibility and your lack of empathy towards us. You know we wouldn't be in this position if it weren't for you and you don't seem to give a damn." Zayn explained. I nodded as I listened at the blatant attack.
"I've always been there for you. All of you. Whenever you have needed me. I have protected us all from all the witches and hunters. I even helped to run the wolves out of town. I've never disregarded any responsibility and I have always been there to listen to your struggles."
"You don't get it." Zayn replied rolling his eyes, angering me more.
"What am I not getting? If you were in my position and Perrie was a witch, what would you do?" I snapped.
"Guys." Niall commented
"Stay out of this." Zayn snapped.
"You wouldn't have done half of what I've done. The truth is Zayn, when the going get's tough, you bail. You always have and you always will. Why do you think you have the power to teleport?"
"I don't bail." He muttered.
"You're bailing now!" I replied trying to understand where his head was at. How could he not see him not wanting to leave to find the exit was him bailing.
"I don't bail. I just have better priorities to you." He answered.
"Just because they're different doesn't mean they're better." I replied.
"Ellie is always going to be your top priority." He said.
"Of course she is." I said.
"Even though she's a witch?" He asked. I could hear his distain when he said the word witch. I didn't know his feelings on witches were so strong.
"Yeah. If Perrie isn't yours, I would really sit and think about your own. What's the saying, don't through stones from glass houses?" I replied.
"It's because of Perrie that it's made me realise that being around you isn't good for any of us. We will always be stuck with the consequences of your actions." He explained. And there is was.
"If you want out when we get out of here, and we will get out of here, you're free to go. We won't hold you back. You'll be free to do whatever and have no links back to us." I suggested. I knew it was what he wanted me to say. And I knew the others wouldn't be the ones to say it. Zayn wanted out and I couldn't blame him. But this wasn't because of me, it was because of him.
"I think it'll be for the best." Zayn replied. The boys all looked at each other in shock and sadness but we could all see on Zayn's expression it was final.
"Fine. Let's go and get out of here." I stated. Niall started walking and followed.
"Fine." Zayn said standing and following Liam.
