Chapter 16:

(Harry's POV)

I followed behind her, trying to keep my distance but I knew she knew I was there. She stopped multiple times as she walked, looking back at rolling her eyes. What did she know? Why can't I let this go? Why can't I let her go? My thoughts were disrupted as she stopped in the middle of a busy quarter, surrounded by shops and people. Her eyes fell on mine as we stood apart. There was enough space for random strangers to walk in between us. Everything felt so familiar and yet so new.

"You're not going to leave me alone are you?" She asked. I could see she was conflicted. Her frown lines were growing but her smile on the corner of her lips told me she wasn't bothered by me.

"I will when you give me the answers I need" I said leaning on the wall with arms crossed.

"You don't want to hear what I've got to say." She said as she too crossed her arms still keeping her distance.

"And what makes you so sure of that?" I asked.

"If I tell you something, will you leave me alone?" She said still staying where she was stood, looking around cautiously. What she was afraid of?

"I'd rather know everything." I answered but her unamused face told me I'd have to settle.

"But sure I'll leave you alone. For now." I continued. She huffed before closing the space between us, standing a foot away from me.

"My family cast the spell on you to make you forget." She explained.

"Why?"

"You knew too much." She said. The irony of what she was saying, I knew she wasn't telling me too much. Why would her family cast a spell on me? What did I know? Is it was the boys knew? Is that why they couldn't tell me? I needed more context. I knew deep down that she was involved somehow.

"What did they want me to forget?" I asked.

"It wasn't a what. It was a who." She explained further. Who did they want me to forget? It wasn't her, otherwise she would have said.

"And why does it feel that I'm missing more than that?"

"Any memories linked to them including people are also wiped away." She explained. That explained why I couldn't remember her. But who was she protecting? Why be so vague?

"So is that how we know each other?" I asked.

"Through my family? God no." She laughed.

"Our paths have just crossed." She lied. I knew she was lying, I didn't know how I knew but I just knew.

"Maybe our paths could cross again in the future?" I asked in the silence.

"Cute." She giggled to herself as she blushed.

"I get cuter." I replied making her blush grow and my grin grow too. What was she doing to me? How did this beautiful stranger have so much power over me?

"I really should get going." She said shuffling where she stood looking away from me trying to look anywhere else as I held eye contact.

"You didn't seem like you were in a rush earlier when you came to the apartment?" I retorted, wanting to see what I could get out of her.

"Things changed." She answered.

"Will I see you again?" I asked.

"Probably not. Witches and vampires. Besides it being against the rule, we don't make a good mix." She relaxed a little, uncrossing her arms and putting her hands behind her back as she shuffled.

"I've never been one to follow the rules." I answered pushing the same piece of hair I tucked around her ear earlier again. She had another snigger to herself as our eyes locked.

"Why do I feel that we know each other more than you're letting on?" I asked.

"Why do you think that?"

"Call it a gut feeling."  I commented pushing the rest of her hair behind her shoulder. My lingers lingered on her jacket longer than they needed to.

"We did. In a past life." She said, letting down that guard a little.

"Past life?" I quizzed putting my hand back down at my side in my jean pocket. I had to tuck it away otherwise I had no control to not touch her.

"A life I'm not planning on bringing to the future." She said crossing her arms again, putting her guard back up.

"Ouch." I commented laughing.

"I tell you my family hurt you and stripped your memory and you want to be in my future?" She explained.

"Is that a problem?" I asked.

"For your future maybe." She commented rolling her eyes.

"You've never been able to leave well enough alone have you?" She asked laughing.

"It's not my style." I added not wanting to let her go.

"I like you little witch." I said making her smile shine brighter than before.

"Maybe one day you can tell me that again -" she said turning around away from me.

"In the space right here, possibly dancing underneath the stars." I continued without thinking. Where did that come from? Her eyes widened as if I said something shocking. I felt a pressure in my head growing as if a headache were coming on. I hadn't had a true headache like this for so long that it worried me. What was happening to me? What was she doing to me?

"Harry?" She interrupted my thoughts. She didn't turn back to face me but she stood frozen in time.

"Sorry. I don't know where that came from." I stated but I could whatever I said had shook her just as much as it had shook me.

"I'll see you around." She said before quickly speed walking away from me.
