I immediately turned my phone off and did my best to ignore the multitude of text messages I was receiving. I looked down at Tyler's sleeping face. He looked like a kid; so innocent, and naive to the world around him. I thought of what the person said, that my time with him wouldn't be much longer. I started crying when I imagined him with Jenna. They seemed so happy together. I pictured them laughing and smiling, and Tyler kissing her repeatedly.
I tried to silence my crying, but I wasn't doing as good as I thought. Tyler's eyes opened slowly and he looked up at me. I wiped my eyes and acted normal, but it was too late. He sat up and held me. "Baby, what's wrong?" He asked, worried.
"Nothing, babe. I'm fine." I smiled at him but he wasn't buying it.
"Bull. What's really wrong?"
"Really, I'm fine, don't worry about it." I kept denying anything was wrong, but he never fully believed me.
September 19, about two weeks later, and I was still getting at least one text everyday from that number. I still hadn't shown anyone, especially not Tyler. It tore me up, keeping secrets from him, but I knew he'd worry, and want to tell his parents or something, and I didn't want to make a big deal out of it. On our walk to school that Monday, Tyler had enough. "Babe, you've been so depressed these last couple of weeks, what is wrong? It's killing me to see you like this, please. Just tell me what's wrong."
"It's nothi-"
"Don't give me that crap! Why won't you tell me? What are you hiding?" His tone said concerned, but his words said suspicious.
"What do you mean 'what am I hiding'? Are you trying to accuse me of something, because I'd rather you just come out with it instead of beating around the bush."
He didn't hesitate. "Are you cheating on me?" There had been times before when he made jokes like this, but this time he was dead serious.
"Wow. You actually think I'm cheating on you? Glad to know what you really think of me." I ran to the sidewalk on the other side of the street and didn't look at Tyler.
Under my breath, I argued with myself about it. You know he has every reason to be suspicious.
"Shut up! Let me be mad!" My mind went silent for the first time in what felt like forever. We walked the rest of the way to school on opposite sides of the road.
After a hellish school day of feeling like crap, the last bell finally rang. I tried to get out the door before Tyler saw me. I only made it a few feet away from the high school before I felt his hand on my shoulder. "You are coming with me." He said as he pulled me towards the woods.
I tried to walk the other way but he just scooped me up and carried me the rest of the way. He ducked so we could get into the fort, then he dropped me on a beanbag. "What has gotten into you? You can't just force me to come out here!"
"What's gotten into me? How about you! Why have you been so secretive lately? Are you cheating on me?"
"God, Tyler, no! Just mind your own business!" He got extremely close to my face and put his hands on my cheeks.
"You are my business. What is going on."
I couldn't keep it from him any longer. I pulled out my phone while holding back tears. I got to the messages and showed him. "Oh my- babe, this is serious! Some of these are threats, like 'be careful next time I see you with him.' Who is sending you these?" I felt so ashamed that simple text messages were messing me up so bad. "Y/n, who is sending you these?"
"Jenna..." I mumbled.
"What?"
"Jenna." I said it clear enough for him to hear.
