Early next morning, Tre awoke from his deep sleep to a dark room, sensing it must still be early in the morning. He peered over to the alarm clock over Cheryl’s head to see that it was only 6.45am, whining as he felt wide awake and knew he wouldn't be able to get back to sleep. Cheryl on the other hand was dreaming peacefully as Tre watched her eyelids fluttering every now and then and listened to her soft, rhythmic breathing. She looked so beautiful he smiled to himself as she lay beside him, one of her hands rested on his stomach. He leaned his head down to gently kiss her forehead, stroking a lock of her hair away from her face as he whispered “I love you so much Bambi” before carefully climbing out of bed so as not to disturb her.
He quietly pulled a navy blue hoody over his head as he crept downstairs, not wanting to wake anyone up so early and was met by Coco and Buster who were sat wagging their tiny tails at the bottom, looking very pleased to see him. “Hello you two, did you wake up early as well?” he spoke sweetly to them, crouching down to give them a little stroke which made him chuckle as they both tried licking his hands. “Come on, I’ll let you outside for a minute” he called quietly as they both trotted along behind him through the kitchen to the backdoor.
Tre let them out into the garden before flicking the kettle switch on to make himself a coffee. He grabbed some bread from the freezer and popped it in the toaster, glancing at the clock on the wall and realising it would probably be the ideal time to give his mother a ring due to the time difference. Once he'd spread some strawberry jam over the toast a couple of minutes later, he walked over to the door to let Buster and Coco back in, grabbing his coffee before he made his way to the lounge.
Tre relaxed back onto Cheryl’s comfy sofa, feeling totally relaxed from the peacefulness of the house this early in the morning. He searched for his mother’s name in his phone whilst taking a bite out of his toast as he pressed call.
“Hey son, how are you? I was starting to think you’d forgotten about me!” a strong American accent chuckled down the phone, making Tre smile.
“How could I ever forget my dear old momsie eh?!...Yeah mom, I’m great thanks, just woke up early before rehearsals so thought I’d check in on ya!...How’s things back home?” Tre asked, sipping his coffee.
“Yeah we’re all doing well son. I've got your grandma staying with me at the minute cos she’s getting her lounge decorated and apparently the paint messes with her head. I had to keep my mouth shut about the fact she always seems messed up in the head to me!” his mother giggled, making her son laugh.
“Aww bless her!...Yeah, she’s always mad as box of frogs!...I need to see her when I come back, it’s been ages!” Tre replied, realising how long it had been since he'd actually met up with his grandma.
“Yeah she'd like to see you love, I think she misses you...she doesn't say anything, but I think she does” his mom answered, making Tre feel slightly guilty.
“OK, well definitely next time I’m up...I’ll take her out somewhere!” he smiled, Buster jumping up to lie on his lap.
“She’d love that, honestly. Anyway, what have you been up to over there? I’m gathering from the lack of phone calls that you’re having a nice time! Are you still courting that extremely pretty girl?” she asked, nosily.
Tre laughed at his mom using the word ‘courting’. “Haha...you're so old fashioned mom, seriously! And yes, I am still ‘COURTING’ that really pretty girl and she's called Cheryl by the way!” he continued giggling as he heard his mother burst out laughing on the other end of the phone, hiding the sound of the stairs creaking as Joan made her way down.
“Haha...well that’s what we called it back in my day! Well how is it going then? Still wandering around like you’re in a day dream like you were when you were here?” she replied.
