Kyle turned around and accused the victims elderly neighbour to have done it, Lucifer nudging Chloe happily at the young mans words, basking in the idea that he'd finally got the killer right. The young man had told them that Hayley wasn't the quietest neighbour - she loved a party and she had them regularly. Mrs Anderson had hated it, he'd told them she'd come over, switch off Hayley's electricity without her permission. She'd scream and shout, which for an elderly citizen was pretty aggressive.
The boy had claimed that once, the woman had even hit Hayley across the face, saying there were multiple witnesses seem as it was during the middle of a rather lively party. Kyle hadn't known what it was they were arguing about because he couldn't hear over the music, but he stepped as soon as the elderly woman hit Hayley. Chloe and Lucifer were pretty sure Kyle wasn't their killer - he was a big guy, he appeared capable of murder but he just started blubbering when he heard what had happened to his former fling, saying over and over again that he loved her, he'd never hurt her. The dark haired boy seemed innocent enough.
"So our main suspects are an elderly neighbour and a jock looking boy whom sobs like a child." Lucifer frowned in annoyance, this case was one of the boring ones. No interesting weirdly, horrifying deaths, barely any mystery to it. Chloe on the other hand seemed fascinated, reading over her notes.
"But what about the boy? Neither the neighbour or Kyle knew him, it's like he came from nowhere." Chloe wondered, dropping the notepad in her lap, leaning against her seat. Her thoughts running wild in her mind for who the stranger could be, the stress of her job getting to her. "One night stand maybe? Party guest?"
"Or maybe our victim did it." Lucifer suggested out of the blue, not thinking much of what he'd said but it had snatched Chloe's attention, her blue eyes wide as though he'd just solved Einstein's puzzle.
"You might be right. Ella said the males body had been there longer than the woman's, maybe she committed the murder of the boy - couldn't live with it and killed herself, maybe the cuts are from the boy trying to defend himself." Chloe marveled, tempted to pull Lucifer into a hug but just started the car instead, blasting the sirens and speeding in the direction of the station. Lucifer found himself grasping the sides of his seat as she sped down the road, he didn't like the speed she was going at, it gave him an uneasy feeling.
"Chloe, I think you should slow down." Lucifer urged, knowing that God was potentially trying to take back his deal with Lucifer, at any moment this car could flip.
Chloe slowed hearing her name, something about how he said it caused her to worry, he spoke as though it was urgent. The detective didn't bother bringing up that he'd said her name but noticed how he relaxed as she returned to her usual speed, his eyes darting about the windscreens view as though he was searching and just as she was about to ask what he was looking for - two cars up ahead collided causing an explosion of fire - which Chloe would've drove right into if she hadn't slowed down. She screeched a stop, not far from the flames, her mouth hung open. Lucifer looked frozen, terrified, like a deer in headlights.
Chloe was about to get out and go check for any survivors but Lucifer caught her wrist, he had a sickening feeling and as he kept her in the car another blast went off causing the glass in their windscreen to burst. If Chloe had got out of the car then, she'd be burnt to a crisp. She let out a scream as the glass flew towards her and Lucifer, he protected her as much as he could. A sharp blade of glass sinking into his side, he let out a cry of pain, hating that Chloe made him human if she didn't he wouldn't feel the pain of the wound. When his sickening feeling faded, he stopped shielding Chloe looking down at her ensuring she was safe, but this time it was her turn to look scared. She looked at his side which was bleeding badly as the glass stuck through it, she could tell it would've hit her if it wasn't for Lucifers quick jump to shield her.
