Lucifer felt a pain shoot through his side, muttering a quiet "Bloody hell." He felt as if he was going around in a circle - barely awake - the drugs the doctors had given him making him feel as though he was in a haze. It was a battle to pry open his eyes, everything had been a blur at first, things quickly coming into focus like the blinding ceiling lights above him. The British man released a groan, muttering a quiet curse. He tensed at the sudden feeling of a gentle grip on his hand, turning his head to look beside him his eyes falling upon the detective. Lucifer felt touched she'd stayed with him until he woke, she looked as though she'd won the lottery when she saw he finally woken, her pale blue eyes sparkling as she let out a breath of relief.
"Detective." He uttered, his voice hoarse from lack of use.
"Thank god you're not dead." Chloe let out a light laugh, warming Lucifer's heart, it had felt like he hadn't heard her laugh in years. But a frown quickly formed across his expression hearing his fathers name, letting out low groan, displeased with her words.
"I wouldn't be thanking him, I'd be blaming him for this."
Chloe shook her head with a smile, missing his metaphors of being the devil sometimes she found herself believing him every now and again. Chloe had even prayed for it to be true when he was dying in her arms yesterday afternoon. "Dan wanted me to let you know, he's glad you're not dead."
"I hope he knows I find that hard to believe, how long have these healers knocked me out for?"
"They're called doctors, Lucifer. But I think around ten to eleven hours, they rushed you in, they had to remove the glass otherwise they'd have no hope to save you, they had to keep you asleep for a while seem as you technically died last night." Chloe explained to him, he looked slightly pissed off by it - which didn't surprise Chloe. The blonde found herself looking down at their entwined hands, Lucifer had held hers back whilst they were talking. He could see there was something haunting her mind.
"Well go on then, Detective. Spit it out." He ushered her, the woman glanced up at his brown ores.
"You've saved my life more times in those ten minutes than anyone has done in my entire life, you stopped the glass from killing me...that's something I can never repay. But I-I just - I'm happy you're okay, I thought I was going to lose you." Chloe mumbled, struggling to keep her voice steady. She felt the lump build up in her throat, one she'd felt the night before when she rushed in to find Lucifer.
"I assure you Detective, it takes a lot more than glass to kill me - but if it's any consolation, I'd jump in front of a bullet for you." Lucifer smiled genuinely, his voice soft, the way it was when he spoke to Trixie that morning. Chloe felt her heart thump rapidly against her chest, she wasn't good with feelings and Lucifer was giving her more of them than she could handle. Chloe remained silent, just holding her gaze with the devil was enough, there weren't words needed to express the feelings they felt between them. Lucifer knew she'd do the same for him as he did for her. "What time is it? We'll have to get going soon."
"Get going? Lucifer, you're not going anywhere, not in your state." Chloe frowned, her hand pulling out of his, making a hurt look spark across his expression. Lucifer gritted his teeth pulling himself up, ignoring the excruciating pain coming from his abdomen. Usually pain was never a problem.
"We have a case to solve, Detective."
"Dan's taking care of that. You've got time off to heal Lucifer, we can't have your stitches coming undone otherwise you'll be straight back here." Chloe sighed, irritated by his recklessness,
"Knowing Detective Douche, he'll arrest the wrong person. There isn't anyone to arrest, is there? I thought she killed herself that's why you started speeding towards the station in the first place," Lucifer said curiously, earning an eye roll from Chloe, before his eyes flickered down at the clock on the bedside table. 8:58am. He glared down at his gown in disgust. "Got anything that doesn't scream, just died now I've been locked in this building of sick people?"
