Chapter 2 – Ace’s Bad day 1.0
I fished out my phone when I noticed that our adviser, and yeah my favorite teacher is writing on the board. At kahit alam kong number 1 rule sa Academy ang hindi paggamit ng phone while on the school premises ay ginawa ko pa rin para mawala ang boredom at inis ko. I was actually busy answering Logo Quiz nang marinig ko na namang magsalita ang katabi ko.
“That’s Nike.” Napatingin ako sa kanya.
“I mean, the answer on that logo is Nike.” Sabi niya ulit.
“Alam ko ang sagot. Like duh, ang dali lang kaya niyan.” Sabi ko with matching roll ulit ng eyes.
“O-okay. By the way, what’s your name?”
“Antanasia Chloe Emi M. San Diego.” Mabilis kong sabi.
“Ano ulit?” And from what I expected, hindi niya naintindihan.
“I said, my name is—“
“Yeah, naintindihan ko. Your name is Antanasia Chloe Emi M. San Diego. What I mean is, ano ang pwede kong itawag sa iyo? Ang haba kasi ng pangalan mo.” Natigilan at nagulat ako. This is the first time that someone I didn’t know understand my whole name.
“I understand that Mr. Santos was only a transferee here and maybe he’s just asking something to Ms. San Diego. But Ms. San Diego, you know that this Academy are not tolerating the students to use their cellphones while they are inside the school. You should know that, right?”
“Ma’am, it’s my fault. I’m just asking for her number. I thought that maybe we could continue our conversation later through cell phone.” Kaagad na sabi ng katabi ko. Nanlaki ang mga mata ko, what is he trying to say?
“Well, this is your first day. And maybe, you didn’t know that cellphones are not allowed inside the Academy. Ms. San Diego, you should go to the Guidance Office. Surrender your phone there. And Mr. Santos, accompany her. She’s going to discuss with you the rules and regulations here. And also, she’s the one who’ll accompany you with the facilities here in the Academy.”
“But—“
“No but’s Chloe. Go ahead, go back before recess time.”
“So, can I also call you as Chloe?” Napatigil ako sa paglalakad.
“Why did you do that?”
“That what?” Nag-aalangan niyang tanong sa akin.
“That scene a while ago! You know that it is my fault right? Bakit mo naman inako?”
“I just thought that you need my help. And besides, it’s merely my fault.” Napairap na naman ako.
“I can handle it. Kasalanan ko naman kasi talaga and I know that cellphones are not allowed pero ginawa ko pa rin.”
“You don’t know what you are talking about.”
“Bakit?” Naguguluhan niyang tanong sa akin.
“I don’t need your help.
“Hey, wala akong masamang intensyon okay? But, I would like to say sorry from what had happened.” Natigilan na naman ako sa sinabi niya.
Hinarap ko siya. “Okay, sorry din sa pagtataray ko. It’s just that, ang daming nangyaring nakakainis ngayon pa lang umaga.”
“I understand it. So, ano ang pwede kong itawag sa iyo?” Napangiti na ako.
“Makulit ka rin pala, ano?” Napangiti na rin siya sa sinabi ko.
“Yeah, lalo na kapag talagang kailangang maging makulit.” Napailing ako.
“You can call me Ace. Shorter version ng name ko.”
“Oh, hi Ace. Nice to meet you.” Sabi niya with matching konting bow pa.
“What’s with that gestures?” Natatawa ko ulit na sabi.
“This is the proper greeting in America where I stayed for almost 5 years.”
“Nice to meet you too, Lor right?” Tumango siya ulit sa akin.
“It’s actually Lucious Orl Rafael S. Santos.”
“Oh, so pareho pala tayong may mahabang pangalan?”
“I guessed so. And from what you had said, Lor is also the shorter version of my name.” Napatango ulit ako, wala akong masabi eh.
“So, friends?” Nginisian ko siya ng malaki.
“Not yet.”
Bigla akong kinabahan. Wew. Good luck to me, malalagot ako kay Papa nito.
