She dreamt of her mother again. It seemed Nicole Reed paid her daughter a visit every other night lately. When Lexi awoke with a jolt, tears trickling down her face despite her attempts to stop, she was surprised when a voice whispered her name. It was Liam.
"I'm sorry if I woke you," she apologised softly, wiping her eyes. It was still dark, Lexi barely able to make out the shadowy figure crouching in front of her to be Liam. Though she couldn't see them, Lexi knew Stiles and Malia were still asleep. Had they been awake they would've been by Lexi's side in an instant.
"It's okay," Liam replied in a whisper. The tears finally stopped flowing, and Lexi hugged the blanket closer to her. She and Liam had taken the floor despite Stiles' arguing. Liam had kept his distance, out of respect for her, but now he was close, so close Lexi could feel his breath. "Do you want to talk about it?"
She shook her head, despite the fact that he probably couldn't see her. "It was just my mom again," she admitted. "I can't believe I actually remember what she looks like, it was so long ago." She let out a shaky laugh, her head hanging.
Liam moved to sit next to her, their backs against the wall that a window occupied. Lexi let him close enough that their legs touched. "She was a big part of your life," Liam said. "You can't just forget that."
She nodded. What he said made sense. Her mother used to be the most important person in her life, and still was, in some ways. Still, it hurt to dream of her. It was so blissful to see her face again, or to even hear her voice, but the pain that stabbed her heart whenever she awoke... Lexi began to question if it was worth it.
Without thinking clearly, mind still clouded with memories of her mother, Lexi leaned her head into Liam's shoulder. He stiffened for a moment, the action catching him off guard, but then he relaxed, shifting so it was more comfortable for her. "What's it like?" She asked. Her eyes ran over the sleeping figures of Stiles and Malia, Malia's arm tightly wrapped around her boyfriend. "High school?" Scott had texted Stiles before everyone had gone to bed, explaining the plan of putting Lexi in school with them so they could keep a better eye on her. She was excited to go, to be a normal teenager even for a little bit, but it was a whole new experience, and new experiences often frightened her.
Liam laughed lightly, careful not to be loud to wake Stiles or Malia, or the even the Sheriff who slept a few rooms down. "It's interesting. It sucks sometimes, but other times it's totally worth it." He paused. "I think you'll like it."
"I hope so," she admitted. "So far this new life hasn't been all that great." Liam scoffed, about to make a funny comment when Lexi ran her fingers down the inside of his wrist. He opened up his palm, where her fingers laid to rest. Liam made the daring move to intertwine their hands. She didn't object.
"It hasn't been all bad, though, has it?" He asked softly. He was looking at her, deeply, intently. Though he couldn't see her entirely he could make out her hair, her upturned nose, and her lips. He could imagine her eyes, so blue and yet so gray at the same time.
He was scared she would pull away, that she'd remember how angry she was about what happened at the Sheriff's station. Instead she shook her head. "No. Some of it's been pretty good, actually." He couldn't see it, but he could practically hear her smile, and then he was smiling too.
He hadn't directly apologised, and she hadn't outright said she had forgiven him, but all actions and conversation in that moment indicated that that particular conversation didn't need to happen.

Lydia and Kira came over early to help get Lexi for school. Since she didn't have much with her and couldn't afford to go shopping, Malia lent her some of the clothes she kept in Stiles' closet for those nights she stayed over. In the end Lexi ended up in a pair of denim shorts, a blue and green plaid shirt, and a pair black converse. Stiles sat with her when she was packing her backpack, explaining all the essentials she would need and how she could use his old textbooks. Everyone was being so helpful of her first day in high school. Even Liam, who had left earlier to grab a shower and change of clothes, said he would be more than happy to show her around. She gladly accepted.
