With her abilities coming back, Lexi had to build up her strength. She might've been in high school now, and a period of silence may have settled over the small town, but war had been waged and she needed to be prepared. Adam wouldn't stay hidden forever, and when he came back for her she would be ready. Instead of Scott or Malia or anyone fighting him, it would be her, and this time she would win. Lexi would make damn sure of it. So, she woke up at five am and got ready for a run. She woke up Stiles and Malia to let them know she was leaving and to see if they wanted to go with her, but Stiles was dead in his sleep and so was Malia. Lexi left a note on the pillow for when they woke up.
Lexi made her way downstairs, careful not to wake Sheriff Stilinski, Stiles, or Malia, and crept out the front door, closing it slowly to avoid any possible squeaking. She tip-toed slowly away from the door, and turned around only to jump back when her body hit another. A shriek escaped her, but a hand was over her mouth before anyone could hear it. Lexi looked up to find Marlee's brown eyes narrowing, motioning for the girl to be silent. Marley pulled her hand away.
"What the hell are you doing?" Lexi whispered-shouted as soon as her mouth was free. Marley was dressed in similar attire to the young omega – running shoes, shorts, and a t-shirt.
Marley's eyes were still narrowed, but a smile was toying on her lips. "I could ask you the same question, Wolfie."
Lexi scrunched her face at the nickname, and shook her head. Marlee motioned with a flick of her head for them to move away from the house, and despite a racing heart that was still pounding away because of Marlee's surprise visit, Lexi followed.
"It's five AM, Marley," she commented as they walked. Lexi already had a route in mind for her run, and just to be smart and safe it was nowhere near the woods. If Adam was still lurking there, she didn't want to take any chances when she wasn't prepared.
"I'm aware of the time," Marley replied, voice cool and unaffected.
"Then why are you here?"
"Chris Argent sent me here to watch over you, Lexi," Marley explained. "Protect you as best as I can. Now, I know you're a smart girl who's more than capable of looking after herself. However, I am wondering how walking around town at five AM is smart when you have a psychotic Alpha Dad after you?"
Lexi glared at Marley's 'duh' tone, but she understood nonetheless. Though Marley didn't use the exact words, it was obvious that the huntress was Lexi's personal bodyguard. One who happened to be flirting with Theo Raeken the day before.
"Hmm?" Marley rose her eyebrows, pressing Lexi to answer her.
Lexi looked straight ahead, to the house at the end of the road as she responded. "I'm building my strength. Adam's going to come again. I want to be prepared."
Marlee was quiet. That was a surprise to Lexi. The blue-eyed omega looked to see Marley's lips pressed together as she stared at the floor. Her eyebrows rose, head tilted, and then she nodded. "It's a good idea," Marley agreed. "Especially now that you've got your werewolf superpowers back. And I take it you're still a bit weak, so running is a way to slowly build it up?" Marley looked to Lexi for confirmation. She smiled widely, clasping her hands together before motioning for Lexi to get on with it. "Lead the way, Woflie."
Lexi rolled her eyes, but started the run anyway. At first it was just jogging, Lexi slowly preparing and hyping herself up to go faster. They were half way to the animal clinic when Lexi picked up speed as they doubled back the house. Marley was relatively quiet through it all, never pushing Lexi to move faster to go a different route. She was patient, slowed down when Lexi struggled, and picked up pace when Lexi pushed herself. It was nice, Lexi would've admitted. To have company that didn't push or pull, but rather just ran beside her at the pace she was comfortable with. There was also a safe feeling around Marley, a kind of security that helped ease the tense worry Lexi constantly had when she was out.
