Chapter 29

It's been four weeks since I've been here, I got my GED and got a job. Kate and Harry graduated already and it was so hard for me not to be there but I know this is where I have to be. I speak to Kate and Emma almost every day.

I walked into the Berkeley office "Hi I'm here to see Mrs. Foster"

I walked into Mrs. Foster office "Lacey right?"

"Yes um, can I have a word with you?"

"Of course"

I sat down "it's about my mother" she looked at me "I knew she came here a few years ago and I know that you know her"

"So you know?"

"Yeah I do" I nodded "I will be living here so I can pay the instate tuition"

"You will be living here?" She asked me.

"I need to buy an apartment but yes but I came to ask about my mother"

"Lacey, I don't"

"I know, Emma knows and now I just want to find her... Please if you know where she is"

She sighed as she began to write something down and she passed me a note with an address on it "that's where she is sweetie but she doesn't go by her name anymore"

"What are you talking about?" I asked her "what name does she go by now?"

"Stefanie"

"Thank you so much Mrs. Foster" I got up "I look forward to starting school here in September"

"I look forward to seeing you in September too"

I walked out and had a few tears in my eyes "woah are you okay?" I looked up and his guy had his hands on me.

"I'm fine please just leave me alone"

"Are you going to be going to school here?" He asked me.

"Yeah... Um excuse me" I moved away and ran back to the hotel where I searched where my mom was.

I called the front desk to call me a cab. I went down front and there was a man waiting outside the cab.

"Are you waiting for Lacey?"

"Yes are you Lacey?"

"Yeah" I nodded as I got in the car "thank you"

"Do you want me to keep the meter?"

"Um I'll just get all other cab back"

He nodded as I paid him and got out of car. I looked at the house and texted Harry.

Lacey: Hey babe, I'm here now

Harry: good luck

I walked up to the front door and knocked then took a step back.

A man opened the door "can I help you?" He asked me.

"Um hi I'm looking for Stefanie"

"Does she know you're here?" He asked me.

"Can you get her, she will know who I am"

He closed the door and I heard him yell Stefanie's name. The door opened and she closed it behind me. She looked at me "do I..."

"It's me mom" I cried.

"Oh my god... My baby, Lacey is that you?"

I nodded and she hugged me "I've missed you so much"

"Oh look how grown you are my beautiful baby"

She pulled me into the house and gave me a cup of water "why didn't you tell me mom?"

"You had to think I was dead Lacey, I'm sorry baby. The last thing I wanted was to be away from my babies but it was the right thing to do"

"Does anyone know you're here?" She asked me.

"No, the only people that know is my best friend, Em and my boyfriend"

"Hold up!" She grabbed my hand "my baby has a boyfriend!"

I laughed "mom, you should of taken us with you..."

"Was it that bad?"

"Yes! It was horrible, I basically raised Emma and I got my license early so I can get your car"

"And you're driving?" She smiled at me.

"That's what happens when you grow up mom"

"I know" I pulled my hand away "it was so hard for me not to have you around mom... And Emma"

"I know"

"Can I tell uncle Anthony? He's worried about me"

"He is?" She asked me.

"I've been living with him for months now"

"Oh I'm so glad he took you guys in"

"Mom, we need you... As our mother"

"Lacey" she sighed.

"Come on, come back with me for a few days. See your brother, Em, and even maybe dad..."

"He's the reason I changed my name and left"

"Fine then you won't have to see him, please think about it"

"I will"

"I should head back to the hotel"

"Um can we have breakfast tomorrow? I'll come by the hotel"

"I would love that mom" I got up "is that guy your boyfriend?"

"No he's just a friend of mine"

I went back to the hotel and called my sister "Lacey!"

"Hey princess, I just spoke to her"

"Does she look the same?"

"A bit different but yeah"

I then spoke to Harry, went out to eat then come back and fell asleep
