Connor's been acting weird lately, you didn't understand why. Whenever he was recording, you'd watch from a distance. You wanted to make sure he was okay.
One day, he was reading a book in front of the TV. You were reading over his shoulder, making sure not to breathe on his arm. He was reading East of Eden by John Steinbeck.
He had reached the final line on the page.
"Maybe it would have the same effect on me." he read aloud.
He closed the book and stood up, grabbing the lamp nearby. You ran out in front of him and snatched the lamp away.
"Is this why you've been buying Kerosene and drinking so much, Connor?"
"(Y/N)...I don't want to hurt you."
"Killing yourself is going to hurt me more than it hurts you. Trust me, I know."
"You wouldn't understand."
"Why not?"
He went silent. You noticed a mark on his arm and set down the lamp. You carefully took his arm in your hand and traced over the mark with your finger.
"What is this?" you asked him.
He sighed and rolled up his sleeve even more to show you the whole thing. Your eyes widened at the site of it. It was the marking of a wizard.

"Is it a tattoo, Connor?"
"No, it's the actual thing."
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"I was scared you would shut me out."
"I would never...never..."
You hugged him, not caring if he was going to hurt you.
"(Y/N), I'm a freak. A monster. I..."
His voice faded and you heard it crack. You fought back your tears and lifted your head to look him in the eyes.
"You are not a monster, you are not a freak. Could you at least tell me what magic it is you have?"
"Pyromancy..."
"And that's bad?"
He chuckled at your sarcasm and held you close.
"You still love me?"
"I never said I would stop."
He chuckled once more and kissed your forehead.
"Next time you tell yourself that you're a monster, do me a favor and talk to me about it."
"I promise."
"Good! Now light the fire, I'm freezing!"
He laughed, giving you one last squeeze then lighting the fire. Where you two cuddled for the rest of the evening.
