It was now Willow at the other side of the door. Her hand just pressed against it, as if she were about to knock but didn't have the courage to. So she stood there, gathering her thoughts, relaying different sentences to make them sound right. Her heart raced.
"We need to talk" she didn't even bother knocking, even though she was stood there for a solid five minutes plucking the courage up to "again"
"I was wondering when you'd come in from waiting outside" Elijah tried to make light of this strange situation "what is it you'd like to speak about"
He motioned to the chair in front of him, and Willow slowly took a seat, watching him strangely acting as if nothing had happened. What even was this man?
"I think you know" she commented, raising her eyebrow to see his reaction.
Elijah was hoping not to bring this up; but what was he expecting? Why would Willow even associate with him on her own free will if not about something concerning her strongly.
He sighed, sitting opposite her and placing his hands on his knees, he definitely needed to sit comfortably for this.
"I was talking to Freya earlier on this evening and she told me that either way, we're going to have to talk about this" Willow began calmly, that's what she promised herself, to stay calm. Even though the mere sight of Elijah brought back painful memories, heartbreak and betrayal, anger and selfishness. She needed to stay calm. "I just wanted you to know, Bradley is staying, he's not leaving despite me asking him to go. Hopefully, he'll leave when he is exposed to everything first hand, but for the moment, he'll be staying here"
"I assume you've told him about everything?" Elijah asked, really not able to wrap his head around the boy wanting to stay after knowing everything about this place.
"I explained it all, I told him that I'm not the person he knows, we just look alike" Willow continued, answering Elijah's question and watching his heart sink with every word. "He wanted to stay, I told him not to but he won't listen to me. He's stubborn"
Elijah smirked, letting out a small laugh of some sort "as stubborn as you?" He looked up. Willow could tell what he was trying to do, look all innocent, like a puppy to try and spark some sympathy from her.
"Don't" she shut her eyes and turned away to compose herself "I'm not in the mood for that right now"
For what? Elijah didn't exactly ask, she was in a strange place at the minute, he didn't want to aggravate her.
But for the moments silence, he just looked at her, she was trying to calculate something in her head, get something out of her mouth to fill the silence. Willow wanted to say something, but she could see the look on Elijah's face, she imagined his reaction, and she didn't know how she would retaliate, with tears or shouting.
"I- I didn't know what I expected" Elijah noticed how hard it was for her to come out and say something; and indeed, Elijah did need to talk about this as well. He looked to the floor and shook his head slowly "I was stupid"
"Stupid?" Willow sat upright in her chair at his remarks, she took a deep breath and knew what was coming next. She didn't know how she was feeling right now, but she knew that she was on the verge of tears, angry and sad.
"I was stupid enough to think that everything would go back to the way they used to be" he laughed at his stupidity, hoping to spark something between them "of course you had someone else-"
"No" her voice was rough "no, Elijah, no. You do not get to act like the victim in this"
She stood to her feet, watching Elijah follow her every movement. He stood to, posing in a stance where he was ready to block the door so they could finish this.
"It's me, I get to act that way because I had everything taken from me. What was I supposed to do? Live my wreck of a life alone? Lock myself in my apartment and only associate with girls instead to prevent me meeting someone I think I could spend the rest of my life with?" She asked "it took me a while for me to admit to myself I was good enough to be loved by someone; Bradley was there for me when I needed a friend, those days where I didn't think I could go on, he was there. Where were you?"
"I understand you're still hurt, I know that. I didn't expect you to lead your life alone, to spend it alone. Willow, I'm trying to support you but forgive me if it seems half-hearted as I'm still in love with you" he admitted "and I just want to hear that you still feel the same"
"I don't know what I feel anymore" she shrugged, quietening down "I don't know anything; and right now it's not my main priority to try and sort out my love life, it's my priority figuring out who the hell is after me"
"You're right" Elijah bowed his head in defeat, he could never win against her.
"It was a mistake coming here. I wanted to try and make things make sense, but it won't, it will never make sense" Willow sniffed, wiping her tears from her cheek "I'm not even sure if I'm going to stay here, just forget that I ever came"
She rushed out of the door swiftly and Elijah didn't know what to say to make her stay with him. But what he did know, he needed air.
