Elijah pushed the door open, the small bell echoed through the store to alert anyone inside of their presence. But nobody came to their arrival.
The majority of lights above them flickered over the empty shelves, that were black with filth.
"I changed my mind about wanting food" she whispered to him "this place is creepy"
In the background played a very quiet jazz song, it only added to how creepy it was. "Hello?" Elijah said, walking up to the counter and knocking on the desk, but still nobody came. He frowned, taking a breath in and smelling something sweet, something he always had a nose for.
"Willow, stay here" he said, stepping back and focussing on the door to the back room.
She scowled at him, surely he should have learnt his lesson by now.
He slowly approached it with Willow following behind him, Elijah reached his arm out and jiggled the door handle to open it as Willow had her hand placed on her jacket, just above where she had the knife.
The stench of blood became stronger and the source of it had been made visible as, what looked like a trucker, lay on the floor, in a pool of blood.
"Oh my god" Willow rushed forward and looked down, she didn't even had to check his heart beat to know he was dead. And the puncture wounds in his neck. "Elijah" she said as her eyes laid on the wounds "I think we're in trouble"
"You know, I was never really a fan of this little station here, I thought it was too dirty, too many roaches and rats" the familiar voice sent shivers up both of their spines and Elijah stepped in front of Willow as they both saw Tristan stood at the doorway, admiring how well he chose, not for luxury, but for the fear factor "but when I calculated the approximate distance from where your car would break down and the nearest safe place... well, beggars can't be choosers" a sickly smirk tugged on the corner of his lips as he knew he had truly caught them by surprise.
Willows breath caught in her threat as she realised that this was no longer a job that involved just picking flowers. It now involved staying alive, and being strong.
It was now about survival.
And looking at Willow, she was as a great disadvantage.
Elijah stood tall, his eyebrows knotted together as he realised something "you've come alone" he said with his head tilted "why?"
"Just the matter of incompetent vampires and I wanted to keep the element of surprise" he shrugged "I'm still strong enough to take you both on"
Willow edged back, her heart racing a mile a minute with Elijah hearing it. "You aren't going to take her" he growled, his hand holding hers tightly, Elijah hissed and bared his fangs at his former protege.
"I see you have the strategy of keeping her with you, pretending your love is real to string her along" Tristan laughed to himself "I would have done that but I did not have the time nor any emotional connection to her. And yes, I will take her, and when I'm done with her, I will kill her like I killed Christopher"
"You'll pay" Elijah bounced forward
"No" Willow tried to pull him back but Elijah had torn his hand from hers, and she was stuck watching them fight like cats and dogs.
She didn't know what to do. All of this combat training had slipped her mind and she couldn't remember a thing, all she could do was scream and cry.
But gathering her thoughts in the next few moments as Elijah and Tristan both battled for the upper hand, she thought of a few things she could do without actually having to use sheer force. But it took a lot of bravery, and she'd be in a lot of pain.
"Stop" she shouted; her voice gruff.
Both of the men stood, fixing their ties and looking at the young girl who had pulled a shiny kitchen knife from her inner pocket and held the point to her stomach.
She looked down, seeing the reflection in the knife and noticing how stupid this idea was. She'd chicken out, surely she would.
"There is nothing for you both to fight about if I am dead" she shouted, directing it mostly to Tristan "I am not an object to fight over, I am a person"
"Willow, put the knife down" Elijah bargained "you cannot be healed"
Whereas Tristan stood relaxed, he let out a bubble of laughter as he crossed his arms "a young girl who's afraid of her own shadow, decides to be the bigger person" he outlined "I call your bluff"
Her thoughts ran wild as she watched Elijah's worried expression, and Tristan's smug expression. He was expecting her to put the knife down and give in, Willow didn't want to see Elijah hurt anymore than he already was.
"You called wrong" in a wild moment the adrenaline rushes through her veins, giving her the power and the bravery to push the knife further into her stomach, piercing the skin and allowing blood to pour out.
"No" both Tristan and Elijah shouted in unity, but for very different reasons. Elijah could have took the chance to kill Tristan once and for all, but this wasn't the time, willow was the main concern. And she was bleeding out.
Elijah sped forward, snapping Tristan's neck and forcing him to topple to the floor. He stepped over the body and ran to Willow, who's body was twitching with the pain, and surrounded by poisonous blood.
"I can't get to you" he realised, pacing as he didn't know what to do. Did he call an ambulance? No, the nearest hospital is hours away and then he'd have the mess of two other bodies to clear.
Elijah was on the verge of risking it all and wading through the blood to lift her and take her to safety, but what would he do then? She can't be healed, he knew his family would know best.
Just as Elijah's shoe almost touched her blood, the bell rang out front.
He sped closer to see the two men looking around in a daze. "Where's Dave?" One asked when he laid eyes on Elijah.
"Please tell me your human" he begged, knowing humans weren't effected by the blood "I need you to do something for me"
