Elijah didn't really knock on the door, he barged straight through and into her room. She wasn't there.
Elijah opened the bathroom door cautiously, in case she was still in there. But she wasn't there either.
He walked back into her bedroom with more worry on his face, noticing something he completely passed in search for her. A little letter on the desk.
Elijah,
Don't worry I'm not gone for good. I've just taken a walk to clear my head, think some things through.
I'll be back by nine at the latest
-WillowElijah folded the paper and tucked it into his inner jacket pocket. He heard Rebekah's words in his head as one side battled with the other. Don't just stand there, go and get the girl.
Don't stand there, go and get the girl.
Elijah was even questioning why his feet were staying still, why were they staying still? Go, scour the city, take it apart and find her.
Where did he even begin? Elijah amused himself by asking that question; of course he knew, he had a connection to her, he obviously knew her thoughts, her movements. Not only that, Elijah recalled a moment in time, a small conversation he engaged with her in the first few days of their meeting.
Elijah looked up at the night sky, the lights of the city hid the stars, only a few shone through, enhancing the light of the full moon.
"You weren't in your room" Elijah took a seat on the bench next to Willow, they were sat just outside the St. Louis Cathedral, by the monument.
"I felt suffocated, I needed to get out for a bit" Willow breathed, the cold air causing her breath to bellow out in smoke.
"Through the window?" Elijah raised one eyebrow as he asked her, of course he would have figured out her escape route. He knew she didn't leave through the front or back door, he was sat in a position where he'd have noticed her leave.
"You wouldn't have let me go out alone, would you?" She answered his question with another one, though it was rhetorical, it did silence the original vampire.
"Why here?" He managed to change the subject, but also he was curious. Why did she choose this place out of all the other places there were.
"It sounds stupid" she smiled and shook her head "but when I was locked in that room, every hour, on the hour, I heard the bell from this cathedral, and for those small seconds it distracted me from what my life had come to"
"Give it time. We'll get through this, together. You have my word"
"Well" she exhaled "lets hope this word means something"
It would be the first place he looked, the cathedral. The clock turned eight and in the distance he heard the bells ring, yes, she was definitely there.
The city was unreasonably quiet at this time, it was different to the usual hustle and bustle of the streets.
Not even painters were at their usual spot, just outside the cathedral, painting the beauty of the white steeples in the night sky. Though they should be, for Elijah stood in their perspective and saw the most beautiful sight.
Her back was towards him, Willow was facing the cathedral. She was just stood there, Elijah could hear her irregular breathing and saw her body twitch with the aftermath of crying.
The wind blew her hair forward in front of her, messing it up after she had washed, dried and neatly brushed it. Willow was trying to distract herself with everything she did, even if it did mean focusing on the bristles of the brush and watching how it intertwined with her hair in the mirror.
"Willow"
The sound of Elijah's voice over the whistling wind was both music to her ears and something she didn't particularly want to hear. How long would she have to wait until it was considered acceptable to move on? To choose the man that already had her heart even though everyday she saw Bradley heartbroken?
Was it fair? Was it moral? Willow just wanted to shout at him to go away, to leave her alone for just a few seconds. But she didn't, of course not otherwise why would she have written that note? If not to hint to follow her, then why? If she wanted to be truly alone, she wouldn't have written the note, she wouldn't have gone somewhere where Elijah knew she'd be. All of these choices and movements she made subconsciously told Elijah to follow her. Proving that no matter how wrong everything went, how much the odds were stacked against them, they'd get through it.
"You told me, on this spot, 5 years ago that we'll get through this together" Willow didn't turn around, she didn't flinch at his voice, she just recalled the time they spoke.
"I remember" Elijah stepped closer and closer with each word he said, still leaving a fair distance between them.
"Does your word still stand?" She asked, Elijah couldn't see properly, but he saw her raise her hands up to wipe her tears away. "Even though I'm a murderous, out of control monster"
"You aren't" Elijah shook his head no, why should she suffer for the lives she had taken? It wasn't to survive, it was apart of the nature that the witches forced upon her. Compared to Elijah and his family, Willow was a saint. "And my word will always stand"
"Oh, what the hell" Willow gave up completely with all of her self control, it was too hard holding it when she was with Elijah, she just couldn't do it anymore. Who cares if she'd be considered awful for doing what she was on the same day as murdering Bradley. But the heart wants what the heart wants.
And hell, they'd both been waiting five years for this.
Willow edged back before fully turning around without another word. She strode up to Elijah and wrapped her arms around his shoulders, pressing her lips against his.
They stayed there for a good few minutes as the world passed by. None of them paying attention to nothing but their lips. Elijah pulled her closer; this was something he wanted so badly, it felt like a dream.
God he hoped it wasn't fake.
