Damien was glad to wake up to see Kerri rolled up onto her side and was lightly snoring. He smiled at the sound of her breaths and inhaled her scent. Damien didn't know what he did to have Kerri in his life, but he was glad that it seemed like he did do something right. Damien eased out of bed one second and was on the other side scoping Kerri up in his arms in the next. He tucked her head under his chin and held her to his chest, waiting for her to open her eyes.
Was it wrong for a vampire to be in love with a mortal? Not by his standards and he would do anything to make her happy. Seeing her sleeping face brought joy to his cold heart. Making his never-ending life seem better to live. Damien heard Kerri's breath deepen and watched as her eyes flutter open, Damien's heart nearly shattered when she smiled at him in the sleepy haze after waking up. Kerri stretched and yawned, then snuggled closer to him and buried her head in his chest.
"Good morning, my sweet vampire, how did you sleep?" Kerri asked and Damien smiled at her.
"Very deep and restful, but I'm more curious about how you slept next to me, since my body is not as warm as yours." Damien said and Kerri looked at him, then snuggled into his chest.
"That is for me to know and you to find out" Kerri said and Damien's smile deepened.
"Ah being secretive huh? That is quite sexy, even though I could probably pick your secrets right out of your mind." Kerri looked up at Damien
"You wouldn't dare"
"I wouldn't, you got me on that one.... My dear rose, why does my cold skin not bother you? Even if you love me your instincts should be telling you to run. Why do you not run from me?" Damien said into her hair.
"I can't run because I don't want to and your skin isn't cold enough for me to cringe from. And I don't understand why you think that I'm not going to be here when you turn around. I'm not going anywhere without you Damien." Kerri said as she ran her hand through Damien's hair and searched his eyes, which were no doubt telling her how he felt.
"Because this is too good, I want to be ready when I can no longer hold you in my arms Kerri. Sooner or later you will die, either by old age or being killed. I just want to be ready for the pain of losing you, ready for following after you when your life ends."
"Then change me, make me one of your kind, make me live forever so I don't have to leave you," Kerri said and sat strait up in his lap.
"Kerri the pain of changing into a vampire is painful and you can lose your mind to the pain. If that happens and you become insane I will have to put you down." Damien said and Kerri slouched a little and frowned.
"You will have to kill me?"
"Yes, if your mind is lost during the transition, even if that doesn't happen I wouldn't be able to bear to hear you screaming in pain." Kerri looked at him with determined eyes and pushed him onto his back and straddled his stomach.
"What if you don't have to hear it? What if I don't scream? Kia said that she saw me as one of you. I can help you with the rebels Damien, you can't fight alone."
"When did she say that?"
"Oh, I don't know, maybe three days ago, just to me."
"You would really turn your back on mortality to be with me?"
"Yes"
"Even if you can't have a family?"
"Yes"
"Why would you do this for me?"
"Because I found my other half and call me crazy, I will stay with you even if you don't change me yourself. But it would be really sexy if it was your poison and power that was running through my body." Kerri said as she nuzzled Damien's neck and planted a kiss on his jaw.
