"The time to test the spell casters loyalty has come. The rebels are going to be at our forest line in six days' time." Kia said and grabbed Kyle's arm and shivered, not because of the cold, but because of the fear that this would be the vision of their death she saw weeks ago.

Kerri got up and took Damien's hand, she looked determined and her dark blue eyes held courage and fear.

"Turn me Damien, turn me now, I can help you fight" Kerri said and a knot of anxiety formed in the pit of his stomach. He looked to his mother for guidance.

"I cannot make up your mind for you son, but if she is willing to go through the transition and become one of us. I will not fight her nor will I condemn her for her choice. But she will not be ready for the fight that is to come. I am sorry my dear Kerri, but in order for you to be changed and be with us I will have to be the one that changes you. I am the only one that can do that and allow you to keep the chance at motherhood. Without my husband, I am just like any other vampire here. So, the royal blood stops at Damien, Kyle, and Nathia. My poison will make the transition faster than six days, but it will be more painful." Adarius said, then she looked at Kerri and held out her hand for Kerri to take.

"Kerri hon, once the transition has been made you cannot go back, you will no longer be a mortal. Make sure this is what you want with all your heart. If this is what you want take my hand and we will begin, but if I change you today Damien will not be able to be by your side. He must fight the coming battle with the rebels, remember that for today." Adarius said and Kerri looked at her hand then at Damien.

"Will you be mad at me for giving up my mortality for you?" Kerri asked and Damien shook his head no, because he couldn't find his voice. This was the moment that he would trust in fate to keep his Kerri by his side, to trust in Kerri.

Kerri nodded then looked at Adarius and hesitantly took her hand. Adarius smiled.

"Damien won't be able to focus on fighting if I'm in here writhing in pain, will he?"

"I'm afraid not my dear"

"I should wait then, I don't want to be the cause of Damien's injuries he might sustain. But I do want to become like you, not for the power or the strength, but for love." Kerri said and Damien stepped in front of her and kissed her hard on the mouth.

"I love you so much Kerri and I will be by your side the whole time and when you decide the time of the change. Kia?" Damien asked and he looked at Kia.

"Yes Damien?"

"Will you get my room ready for her, the one upstairs, just in case?"

"I will Damien, don't worry she'll come out of it sane" Kia said and Damien nodded, then looked back at Kerri and kissed her neck.

"I love you, that will never change" Damien said as he rested his forehead on hers, feeling so lucky that she came into his life.

"Kerri, even though I have tasted your blood, you are the only person whose body, mind, soul, and blood that calls to me. I haven't wanted someone's blood as much as I have wanted yours. I'm amazed that I have had so much restraint over myself that I haven't hurt you like that. You are truly the one that I have been waiting all my life for, you are my heart and life now." Damien said and crystal clear tears slide from Kerri's eyes as she buried her head in his chest.

Damien heard Kia walk down the stairs and from the smell she was carrying a pitcher of blood, she must have stopped at the storage room to bring some down here for the fight. Damien heard her gasp and instantly knew that she was seeing a vision, then the next moment took them all by surprise. The pitcher fell from Kia's hands and shattered, sending blood everywhere.
