Kerri drifted awake and stretched, she realized that her head was resting on Damien's chest and smiled. Her smile faded when she noticed that something wasn't right, Damien's chest wasn't moving up and down with breath.

"Damien?" Kerri asked as she lightly tapped his cheek, he didn't respond to anything. Kerri jumped off the bed and ran to the door as she flung it open she was met by Jade. Startled Kerri slammed the door shut, she heard Jade's breath hitch.

"Kerri I'm sorry that I startled you, Kia sent me up to tell you that Damien is fine, it's his day of sleep. I am to watch over you today while he and the others are resting." Jade said through the door and Kerri opened the door to look Jade in the eyes. The color of her eyes was that of an eagle, penetrating, but soft at the same time.

"How long will they be resting?" Kerri asked and Jade smiled, her white teeth reflected the rising sun. Kerri felt something tugging between her and Jade, like Jade was trying to build a friendship with her.

"Until this time tomorrow, if nothing awakes them"

"What about you? Don't you need your day of sleep?"

"Nope, mine and Caleb's day of sleep was last week, look Kerri I am very sorry that we started off in the wrong way. I am but two decades old and I am having troubles getting used to having someone know about us. I mean I still have a lot of my royal human teachings and feelings hard wired into my body.

"Royal?" Kerri asked and Jade nodded, mentioning for Kerri to follow her into her room. Kerri followed, but was unsure of Jades reasons for her to open up to her. Kerri walked into Jades room and was amazed that it had more than one color scheme in it. One painting caught her eye, it was of a man and women dressed in expensive clothing and they looked like very important people. Jade notice Kerri looking at it and smiled as she walked over to it and touched it gently.

"They are my mother and father. I still love them very much and I wish that I could see them again as the way I am now. But I cannot because to them I died twenty years ago, and in them seeing me now would give them failed hearts and I do not wish to do that." Jade sighed and sat down on her bed and smiled at Kerri's stunned expression, reading her thoughts.

Jade is really telling me her story, why is she opening up to me? Jade looked back at the picture of her parents and continued with her story.

"As a human I was a high lady of Scotland and had every wish that I ever wanted granted to me. I was very spoiled and ordered everyone around, now when I look back, I am ashamed of what I did with my mortal years. But I cannot undo the past. One day I went to my father and told him that I wanted to see America and I was out of the country within the next few days." Jade stopped and laid her hand over her neck and smiled, her eyes turned dark and distant.

"I ran into Caleb within a month of my stay and we started dating, he was the most beautiful man that I could have ever laid my mortal eyes on. He could have anyone he wanted or turn anyone's head. And I felt very lucky and special to have caught his attention. During that time, I knew very little of the world that he lived in and that the reason for his stunning looks was that he was a vampire." Jade stopped and smiled at Kerri, then brushed her strait black hair out of her face.

"I didn't find that out until a month later and on the day that I was killed in a car wreck, well almost killed. I was on the brink of dying when Caleb found me under a bush in the gutter of the freeway. The medical staff had missed me and Caleb had smelled my blood and came looking."

Memory

'Jade? Oh no, Jade!' Caleb exclaimed as he saw Jades feet sticking out from under a bush in the gutter of the freeway. The smell of blood was the thickest around that bush.
