Father Daughter Talk

Jason's pov

I was having a celebratory drink with the guys in the band and Sean. "I can't believe my wife and daughter are pregnant at the same time." I down another shot. "We got a designated right?" "Yeah. I don't drink." Sean says, raising a hand. "Man this kid just keeps getting better and better." Everyone laughs. "I'm not a kid anymore." "Anyone younger than me, I call a kid." I say, downing another shot. "What about Brittany?" Rich jokes nudging my arm. "Oh ha ha." I say, rolling my eyes. "Very funny guys."

*later*

Brittany's pov

I hear the door open and hear Jason shout my name. "Baby I'm sorry. I got drunk." I roll my eyes. He's still having trouble accepting the girls growing up. Keely is almost in middle school. Kendyl is in a school play next week and everyone knows what's going on with the oldest. He stumbles upstairs. I help him sit down. "My head's already killing me." He says. "I'll get some Tylenol." I say. "Baby you're a saint. What would I do without you?" He lays down with a deep sigh. I go downstairs just as the house phone rings. "I got it." Jason calls upstairs. I roll my eyes. "Put it down, Jason. You're too drunk." "Alright." I pick the one downstairs up. "Hey sweetheart what's up?" It's Miranda. "Hey mom. We're coming home early. This morning sickness is killing me." "You aren't the only one sweetheart." I say, resting a hand on my stomach. Jason's asleep as I set Tylenol on the table beside the bed. "Can I talk to dad?" "He uh he went out with some friends and got a little drunk. He's sleeping right now." "Oh ok. Tell him for me then." "I will." I get off the phone and lay down. "We gotta pick the girls up tomorrow." He says, opening one eye. "Jeez I thought you were asleep." "Nah. Just resting my head. Anyway, Jessica is going to visit her sick mom back in Georgia and asked if we could take the girls early." "Cool."

*the next day*

Jason's pov

Britt picked up the girls while I nursed this dreaded hangover. "God I hate hangovers." I mutter walking downstairs. I grab a bottle of water then the door bust open. "Daddy!" I smile and walk out of the kitchen. "Hey princess, how was the honeymoon." She hugs me. "Cut short cause of morning sickness but who cares. It's good to be home." "Where's Cole?" "At home. Then technically you're not home." I tease, tapping her nose. She rolls her eyes. "Still hungover, dad?" "Yes. Don't rub it in." I sit down tiredly. "Where's mom?" Just as she said that, Britt and the girls ran in. As expected, my youngsters tackled me in a hug. "Hey girls. Missed ya." Keely laughs. "Dad, I get to go to middle school next week." "Oh man, no! Now you're growing up on me!" I say jokingly. Everyone laughs. The noise is worsening my hangover. "Well daddy's got a headache and I'm gonna lay down."

Miranda's pov

I laugh. "Poor Jason." Mom says. "What's wrong?" "He doesn't want you guys to grow up." She says ruffling my hair. I smile.

Jason's pov

The door cracks open. I sit up, squinting in the light. "Britt?" "No dad it's me." Oh Miranda. "Hey sweetheart what's up?"

Miranda's pov

I sit on the bed. "You okay dad?" "Yeah. Just hungover. We got a little rowdy last night." He looks sad anyway. "I know you're upset about us growing up." "Yeah. But there's nothing we can do about that now can we?" He smiles. "I just keep thinking......I guess wishing.. I knew you from birth. Ya know? I mean I feel like I barely know you at all." "Barely know me?" "Yeah like what's your first word? Ya know all that stuff." I smile and think. "Well mama said my first word was cookie. My first sentence was play me that song." He laughs softly. "Brantley." I laugh. "Actually I was asking mom to play one of George's songs. Ya know that was 20 years, Brantley wasn't even playing yet." "Neither was I."

*3 hours later*

Cole texts me asking when I'll be home. I tell dad. He smiles. "I'm glad we had this talk." "Me too." I say, hugging him. I say goodbye to my sisters and mom and I head home. Cole hugs me. "Love you." We both say at the same time. We both laugh which he silences with a kiss. I can't wait to have this baby.
