The door opens and a woman appears. Your mouth falls open and you can't believe who is standing there..
"Hi guys! Come on in." The familiar woman opens the door further to let us in. Dad leads the way as you and Liam follow.
"Brooke!" She finally seems to notice you. She turns to your father, "Jack, this is your daughter?"
"Yes. Do you two know each other?" Dad says with confusion as he looks between you and his girlfriend. You stand there awkwardly waiting for her response.
"Yes, I had Brooke back in high school! Those were fun times in gym class, huh?" she turns towards you and elbows you arm jokingly. You couldn't believe your dad was dating your old gym teacher. Wow, what a small world.
She seemed so much nicer than she used to be. In gym, she was always super snobby. If you ever asked her to use the restroom, she would never let you go. You even used to use the whole "I'm on my period." line, and she still wouldn't let you. Those actually weren't 'good' times, as she put it.
You fake a smile and laugh, "Yeah."
Dad wraps his arm around her waist and walks to the living room. You and Liam walk next to each other as he whispers in your ear, "Small world."
"I hope you guys don't mind ordering pizza. I wasn't really prepared and had no time to make a decent meal."
"That's fine Heather." dad says to her as they take a seat next to each other on the sofa as me and Liam take the love seat.
Heather stands back up and retrieves her cell phone from her pocket, "What kind of pizza do you all like?" she stares straight at you and Liam as she speaks.
You shrug your shoulders a little, "I like pepperoni." Liam snakes his arm around your shoulder as you lean back onto the love seat.
"Okay, how about a pepperoni and a supreme?" She asks.
Dad leans back as well and crosses his leg over the other, "Sounds perfect."
Heather disappears from the room to order the pizzas. You look around the room and take in the beautiful scenery. She really did have a beautiful home. The floors were wooden, which accented the oak walls. It seemed so country-like. Instead of being in a city, you felt like you were in the middle of the woods. There is also a huge glass window in the living room, overlooking the city lights. The huge window made the room seem so much bigger and open, along with the high ceilings. You look at Liam and notice him staring at you.
"What?" you ask.
"Just admiring your beauty."
You flush a little and look away. It still amazes you how Liam has this effect on you, even after knowing him for 2 years.
Heather walks back in shortly and takes her spot next to dad.
"The pizza should be here in 25 minutes."
You form your mouth into a straight line and nod. It seems so odd that she is dating your father. You would have never imagined this happening in a million years. But as they say, expect the unexpected.
She looks over to Liam, "I'm so rude. I forgot to ask what your name is."
He tightens his grip on your shoulder a little, "I'm Liam. I'm with Brooke."
"Well it's so nice to meet you Liam! You two look absolutely adorable together." Her tone is a little too perky for your liking. But you smile anyways from her sweet gesture.
"Thank you."
She smiles and looks at your father, starting a side conversation with him silently. You stare at them as they whisper back and forth secretly, as if nobody else can know what they were saying. You watch your dads face as he talks to her. He seems so happy. Every time they talk, his face seems to light up with joy. His eyes have life in them. Something that you missed seeing after your moms death.
Liam nudges you, "We're pretty adorable, huh?" His voice is just low enough so the other two can't hear.
You laugh and lean your head back against his chest. You watch the small fireplace at the front of the room as the fire flickers and dances around. You felt so at-home in this place.
***
You finish your last slice of pizza and wipe your mouth with a napkin. You ate too much, and definitely regretting it. Pizza is so filling, and you wouldn't be surprised if you couldn't walk for a few hours.
After arguing back and forth, Heather finally agreed to let dad pay. He simply refused to let her use her own money on the pizza's. You and Liam just sat back in amusement while watching them bicker. It was actually really cute seeing them like this. Heather acts so much different than how you knew her back in high school. You were so happy for dad for finding such an incredible woman.
She was hilarious as well. The whole time through dinner, she kept cracking jokes and telling stories. It reminded you of your father and the way he always told stories. You had to admit, they were so perfect for each other. She had you laughing the whole time. She even had an effect on Liam, and you found him laughing along as well.
"Well we better get going." Dad announces as he stands up from the table.
"Oh, don't leave so soon!" She glances at you and Liam, "Why don't you all stay the night?"
Dad shrugs his shoulders, a hesitant look on his face, "I don't know.. we don't even have clean clothes."
"Brooke can borrow some of mine. We seem to be around the same size. And besides, I thought men wear the same clothes multiple days in a row?"
He laughs, "Well, you got me on that one honey."
You smile at his words. He was being so sweet to her.
He looks at you, "Is that okay Brooke?"
You nod, "Yeah, I don't mind."
Heather jumps up from the chair, "Great! Come with me and I'll show you where your rooms are."
You and Liam stand and follow her. She leads you up the stairs and down a hallway. She approaches two doors.
"Do you guys need separate rooms, or do you, um, share one?" She speaks in an awkward tone and you find it pretty amusing.
Liam speaks up, "We share."
"Okay, well, here it is." she smiles and flicks on the light as you and Liam enter the bedroom.
"I'll bring you some clothes for tomorrow Brooke." You smile and she walks away, her footsteps echoing on the hardwood floor.
"This place must cost a shit load of money." Liam says as he collapses on the bed and looks around the room. You lay down beside him.
"Yeah." you say in amazement and glance around the room. The bed is huge. And by huge, I mean a California king size bed. The ceiling was high, like the rest of the home. The room had a country-like theme to it to match the rest of the house. Pictures of old wagons and log homes covered the walls. You look up and notice the big flat screen tv covering the wall in front of you. For a minute, you were wishing this could be your home.
Liam takes you by surprise and hovers his body over the top of yours, his face just inches away from yours.
"Okay, what's wrong?"
You look at him confused, "What?"
"You have hardly talked at all this evening."
"I'm fine. I've just been really... thoughtful tonight, I guess."
He chuckles and touches his lips to yours, "Well I don't like it."
Heather clears her throat at the doorway and Liam immediately climbs off of you and stands up.
She looks down at the folded up clothes in her hands, "Um sorry. Here's your clothes Brooke."
She walks over and lays them down on the bed, "Goodnight. Don't cause any trouble tonight you two." she laughs jokingly and shuts the door as she walks out.
"She seems really bitchy." Liam says as he takes his place next to you again.
"No she doesn't. She's really nice."
"Well I don't like her. She jokes around too much."
"Well you seemed to like joking around earlier with my dad." you snap back.
He laughs, "Is that what this is about? You're mad because I actually got along with your dad?"
As silly as it seems, yes. You were glad that they were getting along, but you felt as if Liam was ignoring you. It also was upsetting because you didn't even have that type of effect on Liam.
"Never mind." you finally say after realizing how selfish you sound.
"Tell me." he demands. Liam places his fingers under your chin, forcing you to look up at him.
"I don't want to anymore."
"Brooke, don't keep secrets. That doesn't help the situation."
You think to yourself for a minute, "Okay, I'll tell you. But you have to tell me what was so funny earlier that my dad told you."
He smiles jokingly, "It's kind of inappropriate."
You look into his eyes, "Well I want to know."
He sighs, "He said he used to bang all the ladies back in his day. Thats it."
"That's it?" You question, "Whats so funny about that?"
"It's the way he said it. You would've had to be there to know what I'm talking about." He chuckles at the faint memory. Well technically, you were there.
His laugh immediately turns into a smirk, "Your turn."
You grab the pj's Heather brought to you to avoid the awkward situation, "I just thought you weren't paying that much attention to me. I know, I'm selfish. You don't have to tell me."
You strip your clothes off and start putting on the others. But before you can, Liam grabs your arm and pulls you against him.
"You're so silly. Why would I like your dad more than you?"
You're hypnotized by his minty breath, "I don't know. It's stupid. I was stupid for thinking that."
He pulls his eyebrows together and lifts your chin up, "You're not stupid."
You pull out of his grip, but he pulls you back with a smirk planted on his face.
"Where do you think you're going?"
This feels so weird. Liam is fully clothed, but then you are still in your bra and panties.
You smile up at him, "Can I get dressed please?"
His places kisses on your neck, "Why would you want to do that?"
"Because this feels weird." you announce.
He steps back, "What? You don't like when I kiss you?"
You decide to be honest, "No, I'm virtually wearing no clothes, and you are."
He smirks, "Would you like it better if I wasn't wearing any?"
You bite your lip and look down. to be honest, it would feel a bit better knowing you weren't the only un-clothed one.
He takes your silence as a yes, and slowly removes his shirt. You watch as his large muscles flex as he pulls it over his head.
He notices you watching him and smirks, "You like watching me strip, don't you?"
You run your hand through your hair and cross your arms, but don't say anything.
He removes his jeans and remains in only his boxers.
"Now we're the same." he says and pulls you on top of him as you fall on the bed. You laugh and look down at him as he rolls you over, him being on top this time. He grabs your hands and pins them above your head as he kisses you.
A soft knock on the door pulls you both out of your trance.
"Shit. Every time." Liam curses as he climbs off of you.
You roll your eyes towards him, "Who is it?"
"It's dad." you father says through the door.
"Okay, hang on." you say and quickly pull some clothes on that Heather brought up.
Liam walks to the bathroom inside the bedroom and shuts the door right as you open the one your dad was waiting at.
"Yeah?" you ask and run a hand through your hair.
"Heather just told me about you and Liam. You two better not be up to anything in here." he says in a stern tone.
"Dad, I'm a grown woman. I will do as I please."
He sighs, "I know.. I'm sorry. I'm just trying to look out for you Brooke. You don't need to have kids this early in li-"
You cut him off, "Yeah dad. I got it. Can you go now?" you really didn't feel like discussing sex and babies with your father at the moment.
He smiles, "Fine, fine. I'm leaving. be up by 9 tomorrow. Thats when Heather cooks breakfast."
"Okay dad. Goodnight."
"Night." you watch him walk down the hall. The only thing he was wearing were plaid pajama pants and a pair of white socks.
You shut the door back and pad over to turn the tv on.
Liam emerges from the bathroom, "What did he want that was so important?"
You laugh, "He was warning us about babies."
He pushes his brows down in confusion, "Babies?"
"Basically." You crawl under the covers as Liam joins your side. You snuggle up next to him and watch tv.
"Shit, I forgot to turn off the lights." he mutters.
"Go do it then." you say.
"But you're so warm." he whines jokingly.
You smile and look over at him, "Go do it you softie."
"I'm not a softie." he says in a deep voice.
You shove his chest and laugh before climbing out of bed, "Fine, I'll do it."
You climb back in and notice Liam looking at the screen on your phone.
"What are you doing with my phone?" you ask.
His expression suddenly turns angry, "Somebody texted you."
"Who?"
You grab the phone from him and look at the screen. Your eyes widen at the text Jacob had sent.
