The girl you thought you knew

Chapter 42

Emily POV

We got Kira ready and we got into Evan's car. He started driving to the cafe.

"Evan? Maria only left like 8 months ago...how come I never saw her at school?" I asked.

"She went to a different school. She knew all of my friends through me." He explained. I just nodded and we rode the rest of the way in silence. We pulled up and parked right in front of the cafe. I got out and helped Kira out. Michael came over and we all walked in.

"There she is." He said while pointing to a girl. He back was turned to us, but she had brown hair that stopped at her shoulders. Evan tensed up when Michael pointed her out.

"Guys...I'm not sure if I can do this. If she left it might be for a reason." Evan said.

"You need to do this. She was one of your best friends." I said. I then felt Kira leave my side. She was running towards her sister. 

"Kira!" I exclaimed. I tried to run after her, but Michael held me back.

"Let her see her sister again. Evan if you can't do it me and Emily will go over and talk to her." Michael said. Evan just nodded and walked back out towards the car. Kira walked up to her sister. Michael pulled me over to Maria who was now hugging Kira really tight.

"She's a really nice kid." I said when we got to her table. Maria looked up in shock letting go of Kira. Kira ran back over to me and I picked her up. She snuggled her face happily into my chest.

"Let my sister go! Who are you?" She said quickly.

"Maria it's okay." Michael said to her.

"Do you know her?" She asked. He nodded.

"Hi. My name is Emily. I've heard a lot about you." I said.

"Why do you have my sister?" She asked confusedly. I quickly turned to Michael.

"Can you take Kira out to the car. Evan is there." I whispered so Maria couldn't hear. He nodded and took Kira from me. I then sat down across from Maria.

"I was at the emergency room, please don't ask why. They were rushing someone in on a stretcher and a little girl was running behind them crying." I started to explain.

"Do you mean my mother was in a accident?" She asked. I nodded.

"I'm so sorry, but she pasted away. I asked her if I could keep Kira instead of her going to a orphanage. I didn't know at the time that you were her sister." I said. She looked at me heartbroken.

"How do you know me?"

"My boyfriend knows you."

"Who is your boyfriend?" She asked.

"Evan Parker." I said. She tensed up. "Me and Evan took Kira in and I was at your old house. She said goodbye to your picture in the living room. I then went to school the next day and met Michael. He drove me home, but I had to stop and get Kira...he knows Kira. He told me who you are and helped me find you." I finished explaining.

She sighed and put her head in her hands.

"I can't believe I didn't get to see my mother one last time." She said. A few tears dropped down her face. I moved my chair over to hers and I pulled her into a hug. I sat there holding her till Michael came back.

"Maria. Do you want to see Evan? He doesn't want to come in because he thinks you hate him." Michael said pulling a chair over.

"I could never hate Evan! He was a brother to me. I just didn't want to see his friends again." She said wiping the tears from her face.

"Well you will not see Logan for a while...cause they are not friends anymore." I said. She tensed at his name, but she then relaxed.

"Please can you get him. It was a terrible mistake to leave him." She said wiping the last of her tears. I nodded and stood up. Me and Michael walked outside and over to Evan's car. He was in the drivers seat while Kira is in the back. Michael climb into the back of the car and started talking to Kira.

"Evan...she wants to see you." I said. He tensed up, but he opened the door and followed me inside. I pulled him over to her table. I sat down and Maria looked up at him.

"Maria." He choked out. She stood up and hugged him.

"Evan. I'm so sorry for leaving you. I didn't know you were upset about me leaving." She said crying into his shoulder.

"Please don't leave me again. Your like my little sister....it killed me to know that you left." He said holding her tightly. She pulled back and wiped her tears.

"You will always be my brother Evan. Now let's get down to the real business. Am I allowed to take Kira from you?" She asked.

"I can't answer that. Only Kira can." I said. I then stood up and walked back outside to the car. I opened up the door.

"Michael...grab Kira and bring her in please." I said. Michael picked up Kira and followed me in. We walked back over to there table.

I sat down and Michael let Kira down next to me.

"You need to ask Kira the question." I said. Kira looked at her sister with big eyes.

"Kira...do you want to come and live with me?" Maria asked. Kira smiled and nodded. She ran up to her sister and hugged her.

"Can we still and go visit Em and Evan?" Kira asked.

"Yes of course!" Maria exclaimed. "I'm sorry to say, but we must go now. I'll see you guys later."

Maria stood and took Kira's hand. She waved us bye and left. I grabbed Evan's hand and squeezed it. I then looked at Michael.

"Thank you so much Michael. Thank you for helping us." I said.

"It's not problem. You helped me today, and I think we are going to be good friends." Michael said.

We said goodbyes and me and Evan drove home. We got home and we snuggled together on the couch.

"I love you so much Em." Evan said kissing me on the head.

"I love you too."
