The drive home was fast and peaceful. I park my car and hurry inside. I spot Diana in the kitchen cooking.

"Where's mom?" I ask.

"Upstairs. In bed I believe."

She walks towards me and hugs me. Her hug is tight and she doesn't let go until after a minute.

"I don't think she's going to make it." she whispers."

I kiss her forehead and run upstairs. I walk towards my mothers room and open the door. She is sitting in a chair and facing the window. She has a messy bun, leggings and a sweater. I have never seen my mother like this. She is always so proper. And now, she's a mess.

"Hey, I'm home." She doesn't respond.

I walk towards her and kneel down in front of her.

"I'm going to go out. Maybe you should too."

She looks straight past me as if I'm not even there. I sigh and head towards the door.

"You need to snap out of it. Not just for yourself but for her. She needs you. I won't be here forever." I say as I close the door behind me.

I walk towards my room and search my closet. I have nothing to wear for to tonight. No dresses, no skirts, no nothing.

"Where are you going?" Diana walks in and takes a seat on my bed.

"A book signing."

"You don't have anything to wear." It isn't a question.

"We could go shopping. I need to get my mind off things." she adds.

"Let me get ready and I'll be down." I smile at her.

"I'll be waiting." she walks out of the room.

I walk into the restroom and stare at myself in the mirror. I always curl my hair so I decide to wear it straight for tonight. I apply light eyeshadow and thin lines of eyeliner on top. I put red lipstick on my bottom lip and press them together.

"Ready?" I ask as I garb my jacket from the coat hanger.

We climb in the car and I turn to face Diana.

"Where too?"

"What?" she asks.

"You're the future model here. Where too?" I smile.

"Lord and Taylor." She smiles back.

It's a twenty minute drive to the store and luckily, it's only a few minutes away from the library.

We walk inside and I instantly feel uncomfortable. I don't fit in. Everyone is dressed to the fashion and here I am in jeans and a t-shirt.

I look at my sister and her eyes are sparkling. She loves this place. She's even dressed better than me.

"Welcome to Lord and Taylor. My name is Alison. How may I help you?"

"Uh, I have this book signing tonight and I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to wear." I laugh.

She pulls me by my wrist to the back of the room where there are endless racks of dresses.

She turns to face me and eye's me up and down. She rushes over to the black-colored dresses and pulls out three dresses.

"You'll look good in black. Go on." She points at the dressing room.

All three dresses are beautiful. I first eliminate the short and strapless dress. Next, I eliminate the knee-high long sleeve dress. I walk out of the dressing room and head to the register.
