Chapter 16
It was 6'o clock in the morning and I was still sobbing. I tried my best to stop the tears, but they would keep coming every time the scene came back to my head.
Fuck you Nathan for causing this.
I got up from my bed and began to stretch, because I thought it might help. But when I lift both of my arms up, I fell immediately on the floor and broke down in tears again. The cold tile still made me shiver even though I was pretty sure that I couldn't feel anything. I was feeling numb, broken and betrayed.
"N-no no no n-no, n-not t-t-this aga-again." I said to no one in particular as I tried to wipe off the tears that are streaming down my face.
A loud groan made me immediately shut up while I sat there on the floor paralyzed, eyes widen as I stared at the thin pink wall of my room that separated my room from the neighbor’s.
“School starts in exact an hour and forty five minutes, so I would really appreciate it if you shut that tap water of yours for at least five minutes. Water bills are expensive.” Carter’s voice came from the other side of the room.
I scoffed, “Are you talking to me?” My voice came out cracked.
“Nah, I’m just talking to that imaginary friend of mine. Her name is Caroline. Would you like to say hello to her? She’s here with me allll night long. We like to have so much fun. Hard.”
I rolled my eyes, “Can you not?”
“Can I yes?”
“Look, I’m not in the mood for your bad jokes right now!” I snapped as I threw the closest thing from me, which is a slipper, at the wall.
“Ouch. Ego’s hurt. So is the wall.”
“Carter.”
“Tomatow.”
I groaned in annoyance, “For heaven’s sa-“
“What happened?”
I was taken aback by his sudden interruption and question in a serious voice. I stayed silent because I wasn't sure if I should tell Carter. He wasn't the first person I would run to when something happened. The first person was usually Stella, but she was probably really happy at that moment that I couldn't ruin the moment for her since she and Mickey got back together.
“Tomatow, what happened?”
“Why do you care?”
“Just curious, but if you hate me so much that you don’t even wanna te-“
“We broke up. Nathan and I broke up.” I explained, trying my best to sound okay and normal. I didn't know why I told him, but I just needed to tell someone I guess. I held my breath in as I waited for his reply. He had stayed silent for one minute and thirty seconds before he replied, yes I was counting.
“Now that wasn't so bad, was it? Look, that guy is a douche anyways. I mean like you can do way better. Look at the positive sides. Rainbows and unicorns.”
I threw my hands up in the air as I got up from the floor and slumped down on my bed, “There isn't exactly rainbows and unicorns Carter! He was in bed with my sister! There isn't any positive vibes from that except disgusting swapping of germs.”
“Oh shit. Jerk and bitch together. What a high school drama for the newspaper.” He said in a high-pitched voice that reminded me of Stella.
I let out a small laugh even though I wasn't in the mood for it. It’s amazing how someone can still make you smile at the worst times, especially someone who you never expected.
