Senior year, Spring Break

Maya let her feet swing back and forth as she breathed in the cold air around her. It had been surprisingly cold for spring. She watched as the sun dropped down in the hudson river. It made the river look like it was made of gold. She just wanted to be alone. Everything was going downhill. From Clarissa's pregnancy scare to Clarissa demanding Maya not be around Lucas anymore.

Maya would tell you that her feelings were gone, just like snow when it starts getting warmer. But the truth was, they were not. It seemed like they only got stronger with time. But still she distanced herself from him and Lucas wasn't stupid. He actually had tried to talk to her multiple times, but she pushed him away.

Her fingers touched the cold bench and she took a deep breath and visibly relaxed. Her eyes softened as she focused and the water and her eyes were finally not filled with pain anymore. Her phone beeped again, like it had done for the past hour. Maya glanced at the small screen and sighed as she read Riles. Maya read the text and replied, and then locked her phone once again.

"Hi," His voice startled her. It was Zay, who didn't go to Texas with Lucas. "Hey," Maya replied, grabbing her backpack. Allowing Zay to sit down beside her. "This weather makes me wish that I was in Texas right now." He said trying to lighten the mood between the two. "Yeah," Maya said picking at her nails. "He asks about you. I know I should not be telling you this but he really does, Maya." He told the blonde who had her eyes closed. "Zay, please don't do that. Don't talk about him," She looked at him practically begging him.

After that Zay stayed silent and sometimes looking over at Maya, who had her sketchbook in her lap while she drew the sunset. When it started getting really dark, the two of them walked home in silence. "Zay?" Maya asked as she readjusted her backpack. "tell him that I miss his cowboy ass too," She said before walking ahead of him and walking towards her front door. "I think he knows Maya," Zay said but to late for Maya to even hear.

Lucas' Pov

I turned around once again in my bed. As if sleep wasn't something I was supposed to have anymore. I glanced at the clock on my bedside table, 3:15 AM. I sighed and put on the light. I walked into my kitchen and was startled by a voice. "What are you up so early?" The female voice asked. "Couldn't sleep, I keep thinking about Maya." I explained. The older woman padded the chair in front of her. "Maya? Your wife, the beautiful blonde?" She asked as I sat down. I nodded my head.

"She seems like a wonderful young lady," She said looking at the picture of Maya, she allowed me to put down in the living room. "She is the most amazing person I have ever met in my entire left and I can't even hold her now," I said as I felt my heart twitch a little. Meredith sighed and gave me a comforting smile. "You know Lucas, I am sure what you did was in order to protect her and your family. No matter how much it hurts, Maya will never forget you." I smiled back but still the hurt remained like a silent wound, slowly killing me.

After that talk, I decided to try to go back to bed. I found myself staring at the pictures on my bedside table and felt tears starting to well up in my eyes. "I am so sorry Maya," I say letting my finger, trace the outline of her face. I loved this picture, it's a picture of Maya in Texas. I took her there during our summer break before we all went to college.

Riley and Farkle went to CA, Zay went with us but ended up spending more time with Vanessa than us. It's a picture of her as she is riding a horse and the sun perfectly hit her face to make her look like she was an angel. I laid down and thought back of the amazing time we had back then and how much of a mess life was right now.
