9 - Gone

At the hospital 

After the call last night , Maya immediately went to the hospital . Riley was in labor but something was wrong with her baby . 

" God , what is taking them so long ? " Maya asked pacing around the waiting room . " Maya , please calm down . " Cory spoke . " How can you be calm about this , your grandchild could be dead ? " 

Everyone in the room went silent . She truly felt sorry for the words that had came out of her mouth . Maya sat down again . " Maya why don't you go home ? Be with Lucas and Olivia I'll call you if there's any  news . " Topanga offered the blond . 

It was going to take a little bit more to make Maya leave her best friend  . 3 hours later Farkle walked in the room . His eyes were red rimmed from all the crying . He looked exhausted . " She only wants to see Maya . " He said before turning around and leaving the room. Maya stood up looking around her . 

Farkle was waiting outside for her . The walk to Riley's room was quiet , she could only hear him sniffle a few times , which meant something bad happened . He stopped in front of room 704 and knocked softly . Maya took a deep breath and then walked inside the room .

Riley sat there staring in front of her . Farkle didn't come inside but  closed the door after Maya had walked inside the room . A soon as the click of the door was heard , Maya ran towards her best friend . 

" I am so sorry , Honey . " Riley didn't even look at Maya . A tear rolled down her cheek . "He's gone . He was born dead , peaches . " Riley's words were cold , they sent a chill down  Maya's spine . " I knew something was wrong but I brushed it off . I could have done more for him . " 

For the first time in ages Riley's twinkle was gone . Her signature smile that made everyone smile was gone and her beautiful and kind heart was shattered into a thousand little pieces . Maya didn't know what to say , sure she knew how it felt to loose a child but to be honest she didn't even know it was there . 

For Riley and Farkle it was different , they had loved this baby for nine months . They got everything it needed and now there was no one to bring home .No baby to dress in the clothes everyone had bought . No baby to be put to sleep in the beautiful nursery . 

Riley's behavior had changed into extreme sobbing. The whole night Maya stayed with her . Cory and Topanga came in and consolled their daughter when Maya had to leave . 

February 25th 2024

" Are you okay ? " Lucas asked as Maya closed the door behind her and slumped in the chair . " I am worried about Riley . She hasn't been out since she left the hospital ." Lucas walked over to her . 

"So what do you want to do ? " He said kissing the top of her head ." I just want my ray of sunshine back . " He lifted up her head with his hand . " Maya , you can't just expect Riley will be back to normal in 2 weeks time . " He looked at her " She just lost her child , Blake's funeral was a week ago . Don't think it's easy for her . " She sighed .
