4 days later

Lucas woke up to a soft cry, he turned to his side to see Maya fast asleep. He kissed the top of her head and got out of bed. He walked over to the room beside theirs. Their new house was still being finished but it was coming along great. They were currently staying at Lucas' parents' house.

He walked in the room and looked at his almost four months old son. His cries stopped as soon as Lucas picked him up and rocked him. "Hey buddy, can't sleep huh?" The little boy stared up at his father, recognizing his voice and his face. Lucas kept rocking him back and forth while he sat down on the window sill.

"I'll tell you a story," He said as he looked at the little boy. "This is about your mommy." He sighed as he looked outside. "I made a mistake when I was younger, choosing the wrong people. Hanging with the wrong crowd, I did things I am not proud of. Everyone was mad at me and left but you know who stayed and believed the real me was still there?" He asked no one in particular, but a voice answered.

A voice that he loved more than himself, a voice he'd give his life for. "Was it me?" She asked as she walked over to where Lucas was holding Connor. He nodded as he watched her sit down. "Why did you stay?"He asked her after a little while. She averted her gaze from her son to her fiancée.

"I've told you, because friends stick together."Maya said stroking his hand. "And the real reason is?" He said as he took her hand in his. "Lucas, Joe meant so much to you. He was your influence, you loved him and the day he died a part of you died with him. I watched you break down at the funeral. You thought you had no purpose in life anymore, yet here you are raising two beautiful children. And making my greatest dreams come true." Lucas looked down at the memory of his brother.

Joe died while he was working for the army. He remembered the killing silence in his house when he arrived home. The way his dad walked towards him and the sound of his mom's sobs. "That person wasn't you and I knew that. I just couldn't let you go. Joe wouldn't have wanted that." She continued. Maya now had her hand on his face wiping away a stray tear.

"Joe always loved you Maya." She smiled at the thought of Lucas' older brother that always said that the two of them would end up together. "I miss him, I wanted Olivia and Connor to meet him." He told her. "Sweetie, you can tell them all the amazing stories and make his legacy live on. He's not gone, he's still here with us." Maya said.

"I'm glad, your going to be my wife," he said breaking the silence. She chuckled and kissed him and then laying her head on his shoulder. "Same here, I love you huckleberry" He kissed the top of her head and watched his son in a deep sleep. After they put Connor back in his crib, Lucas checked up on Liv.

She was still asleep in her big girl bed, that she got for Christmas. He sat down on the bed and stroked her hair. He tucked her in and kissed her forehead. "Night princess." He walked back to his room and laid down beside Maya. When Lucas was in bed Maya moved and laid her head on his chest and he put his arms around her. "I love you, never forget that." He mumbled in her hair. "I'll never forget. I love you too." She said meeting his eyes. He pecked her lips and then nuzzled his face in her hair. That's how they fell asleep.
