Maya woke up to the soft snoring of her husband. She barely got some rest last night. She laid awake most of the times, thinking of that man who tried to ruin everything. The house was quiet and everything was calm. The sunlight came through the window and gave everything around her a golden glow. Maya slowly escaped Lucas' arms and put on her slippers. She walked past the twins' nursery and  Olivia's room and then Connors room.

She let sunflower go outside and sat down in her sun room where she watched as the leaves fall of the trees and curled up in the chair she was sitting in. The leaves reminded her of the ski lodge and how much that place changed everything.

She rarely thought back of those times. How much she cried after she came back from the trip. She didn't interact much with the group beside school ariund that time and Maya's mom watched her daughter break. "I am fine, Josh and I are trying to make things work," She would reply but everyone knew that those were all lies. She glanced down at the ring on her finger, it was a sign of true love but it took a lot of pain too. She had to go through heartbreak and watching the two people she cared most about in her life, get together while she felt her heart shatter into a million little pieces.

"Mommy?" A little voice made Maya snap back to reality. She turned her head and found a little girl with sleepy eyes and a croaky voice, standing in front of her. "Hi baby berries," Maya said putting her mug down on the table beside her and allowed Olivia to crawl up her lap.

She hugged the little girl for a while, she missed so much of her childrens lives and she hated it. "I missed you," Olivia said as she looked up at Maya. "I missed you too baby," Maya replied as she brushed a few stray strands of hair out of Olivia's face. Maya enjoyed the silence a little longer and closed her eyes for a brief second. Maya felt to hands firmly around her shoulders. She looked up and found Lucas smiling down at her. "Hey blondie," He said pecking her lips. "Hi," She replied letting her head rest against his hand.

An hour later

Olivia and Connor were munching on their pancakes and Haley was being fed by Maya and Hazel by Lucas. Lucas watched his wife as she caressed her daughters cheek. She seemed scared, Lucas had no idea why. After the girls were done eating and Olivia and Connor had put their plates in the dishwasher, I let Maya spend some time with the kids as I cleaned the house a bit.

Maya sat with her youngest daughter in her lap as she watched Olivia play peek-a-boo with the oldest twin. She had to rest before she could go back to her normal life after everything that happened. She heard Olivia giggle as she watched her younger sister laugh. Connor cuddled up against Maya, watching Peter Pan. The weather had been terrible in Texas. Maya had always remembered it being warm and barely ever raining but now it had been raining every day.

Connor fell asleep after a while and Maya noticed that the twins were getting tired too, so she instructed Olivia to pick up their blankets and she caried them upstairs. She laid down each twin in their own bed and swaddled them and placed a soft kiss on their heads and then slowly closed the door.

She made her way to her bedroom and stumbled across a book she had never seen before. She sat down on the perfectly made bed and sighed as she let her fingers trail over the picture of her and Lucas back in middle school. She heard Lucas and Olivia laugh downstairs and smiled as she turned the next page of the book. It was a picture of Olivia and Maya at the park. She felt some tears fall down her cheek. She read the messy handwriting beneath the picture.
